Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 was officially renewed in February 2024, less than a month after the season 1 finale aired on January 30.

Now, Disney+ has officially announced that Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 will premiere in December, though they have not yet revealed the exact day when it will debut. This news also comes paired with the reveal that the studio has also renewed the show for season 3, which will adapt the events of The Titan's Curse.

What This Means For Percy Jackson & The Olympians Season 2

The Show Could Have A More Regulated Schedule Than The Movies

While reports had previously indicated that the show would be back on the air, this is the first official update Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 has seen as far as its release date goes. Interestingly, season 2 has actually been largely ahead of schedule compared to season 1, with filming having kicked off in August 2024 and wrapping in January 2025. Compared to the June 2022 to February 2023 filming schedule, that marks a promising turnaround rate for the next chapter of the show.

However, with the show still set for a December premiere, as was the case with its predecessor season, Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 seems to be eyeing a bigger scale than season 1. Having upwards of 11 months of post-production could indicate a bigger focus on the show's visual effects, which would make sense when considering many of the setpieces that are in Riordan's sequel novel, The Sea of Monsters.

Though Sea of Monsters is a great book in the Percy Jackson series, the show has an opportunity to delve more deeply into its underdeveloped stories.

More importantly, however, is that if season 3 also eyes a December premiere date in 2026 or 2027, the show will be on a much more regulated release schedule than the Percy Jackson movie franchise. After the first movie hit theaters in February 2010, it took over three years for the sequel to release. While movie release schedules are far different from those of TV shows when it comes to repeated successes, it was clear the wait didn't help Sea of Monsters when it failed to match its predecessor at the box office.

It Will Also Avoid A Common YA Problem

Walker Scobell as Percy Smiling in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1.

Beyond just ensuring that audiences don't have to wait too long for the show's return, Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 being confirmed for a December premiere also avoids the common young adult genre trope of actors aging out of their roles. Though Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson were deemed too old in the first movie, many lamented they looked like college kids by the time Sea of Monsters rolled around. With Scobell, Jeffries and Simhadri starting by looking the right age, and generally a two-year-turnaround between seasons, the trio will remain appropriately suited for their parts.
