It’s been a long time since new Perfect Dark game coming to the next-gen console.

Perfect Dark is a first-person shooter with a sci-fi setting. The games center on protagonist Joanna Dark, who is an operative working missions for the Carrington Institute. The original game was a huge success, often listed as one of the best games on the N64, but the series has dwindled in popularity over the years. That hasn’t stopped fans from hoping a new game appears soon on Microsoft’s next big console.

One of the biggest questions is how Microsoft would handle a new Perfect Dark game on the Xbox Series X. Since acquiring Rare, the original developers of the game who are currently working on aHalo and Gears of War. Two new games, tentatively titled Perfect Dark Core and Perfect Dark Vengeance, were planned; however, Microsoft cancelled both games because the series wasn’t selling well enough.

Regardless, to understand what a Perfect Dark game would look like on the Xbox Series X, fans should take a look at those cancelled titles. Both Core and Vengeance were planned as games with Call of Duty-style online multiplayer, something that is highly likely to be featured in a new Xbox Series X title. The original featured multiplayer as well, but its deathmatch mode would need an overhaul to update it to modern standards. Releasing a first-person shooter like Perfect Dark now would demand an elaborate online multiplayer feature if it’s going to succeed. However, it should definitely retain elements which made the series great in the first place, such as Challenges and different types of AI "simulant" players for solo s to fight against.

Vehicles are another key to the game’s success. The game already features hoverbikes, which could be implemented as ground vehicles in online multiplayer. The online multiplayer mode could additionally have space battles, similar to the starfighter dogfights in Star Wars Battlefront 2. Once players have beaten the main story, variety in online multiplayer modes would be instrumental to ensuring no one gets bored.

At the time of its original release, Perfect Dark had cutting-edge graphics that wowed players. Moving a new game in the series to the Xbox Series X would be a great way for history to repeat itself. Now, if only Microsoft will listen and give fans what they want.
