While ghost hunting in harsh jumpscare is usually the work of the ghost, particularly when it wants to distract the team from finding it and gathering evidence about it. This can give the ghost a greater chance to kill off the player characters, causing them to lose their equipment in the process. Worse still, like in real life, the car alarm will continue until the player figures out how to turn it off. While players try to communicate with one another and find the ghost, this can become a distraction and frustration that leads to mistakes.
Ghosts will only set off the car alarm on ghost's voice, making it harder to track, and it will also drown out the sound of footsteps and other noises that alert the team to the ghost's location. How to Turn off the Car Alarm in Phasmophobia
Ghosts will only set off car alarms on the house levels, meaning players on the larger, Professional-difficulty maps won't have to worry about this as much. This won't happen on every house level either, as the car with the alarm only appears at random.
When the car alarm goes off, players will need to search for the key. The key will always be somewhere in the house, but its spawn patterns are fairly random, and the key doesn't always look the same.
Most often, players find it near the front door. It can also appear on walls, tables, and the floor. Essentially, if players see a key, they'll want to grab it, as it is likely the right one.
To pick up the keys, players need to left-click. They will then need to exit the building and find the car.
When they get close to the offending vehicle, they will need to go through their inventory to find and equip the key. Left-clicking the keys, near the car, or on the driver's door will disable the alarm.
Players can get a small bonus if they locate the key and get outside within a few seconds. The ghost will linger near the vehicle for ten seconds after setting the alarm off, meaning players will know exactly where to go to snag some evidence if they're having trouble locating or communicating with the ghost in the house.
