Pikmin 3 Deluxe is the re-release of the Nintendo Wii U title with a bit of new content. For starters, players can now play the entire game with a friend in co-operative play. The game features three different captains, Brittany, Alph, and Charlie and players will need to alternate between all three of them to collect as much fruit as possible with a limited-time. The game also features new content following the original captains from the first two Pikmin titles, Olimar and Louie. This guide will help players unlock these new Side Stories.

The goal of the game is for players to collect as much fruit on the Pikmin Planet as they can before the captains run out of food supply. Players will need to bring over food to their home planet that is running low on their own natural resources. Each day, the player will need to collect Pikmin and search around the level for fruit, defeating enemies, and solving puzzles with 5 different Pikmin types. The game also features a new difficulty mode with "Ultra Spicy" that limits the total amount of Pikmin players can carry from 100 to 60. This challenge can be carried over to the new Side Stories exclusive to the deluxe version of the game. Here's how players can unlock them.

There are two side stories for players to unlock, both involving Olimar's involvement in the plot of Pikmin 3. Here's how players can unlock them,

  • Olimar's Assignment: Players will need to defeat the Vehemoth Phosbat in the Distant Tundra. It will be made available on the main menu.
  • Olimar's Comeback: Players will need to complete the game and defeat Plasm Wraith in the final battle. It will be made available on the main menu as well.

Pikmin isn't one of Nintendo's most popular franchises but is one of their more unique. This real-time strategy title continues to receive new titles at a snail-speed pace. The last mainline entry, Pikmin 2, released back on the Nintendo Gamecube in 2004, 9 years before the third entry released. Currently, the deluxe version of the title currently has slower physical sales when compared to the original but that could be due to a lot of different attributes (digital copies, COVID-19, etc). Pikmin 3 Deluxe is the best version of the game out there right now.
