One of the most valuable things to players in Pikmin 4 should come as no surprise as it is Pikmin themselves. There are nine different types of Pikmin available to be of use to the player, but each one will need to be unlocked. Pikmin are ultimately unlocked by using their corresponding Onion, which allows players to grow them.

However, some Pikmin will be found in the wild before their Onion is found, such as Ice Pikin in Pikmin 4. These Pikmin can be recruited and used, but could eventually run out, so it's recommended to find the Onions as soon as possible. Additionally, players should be aware that they will only be able to hold a certain number of Pikmin at a time but can increase their capacity by progressing.

How To Create More Pikmin

Almost all Pikmin types in Pikmin 4 will be created through essentially the same process, the Onion. From the start, players will have access to the Red Onion, which allows them to create the most general variant of Pikmin, the Red Pikmin. From there, players will encounter some Pikmin in the wild, such as Ice Pikmin and Yellow Pikmin. However, this will not allow players to produce them. While this is a method of acquiring them before finding their Onion, the associated Onion for each type should be a priority on players' to-do lists.

The only Pikmin not obtainable through an Onion are Glow Pikmin. They must be farmed through exploration. There is no Glow Onion for players to find and grow Pikmin with.

Once an Onion has been found, it can be brought back to the base. Once at the base, the Onion will often be merged into the mother Onion, at which point it will be capable of producing that type of Pikmin. From there, players will grow Pikmin the way they usually would and produce as many as they may need. There are a couple of duplicate Onions, specifically Blue and Yellow, which, if collected, will add more Pikmin of those types to the inventory.

How To Increase Pikmin Capacity With Flarlic

Another aspect of Pikmin 4 is the amount of Pikmin the player is allowed to have out with them. Though Pikmin can be stored away, the number allowed on the surface depends on whether players have increased their capacity with Flarlic. Flarlic are bulbs that resemble onions, but once brought back to base, they will instead be absorbed and increase the player's capacity for Pikmin by 10.

This is pretty important as certain tasks will require more and more Pikmin, so players should collect all the Flarlic they can find in Pikmin 4, which at the time seems to be a total of twelve, with two Flarlic in each area starting in Sun-Speckled Terrace.
