fondness for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to help breathe fresh life into the action/adventure series, six years after its last installment (2011's On Stranger Tides).

It's been quite some time since moviegoers were first formally introduced to Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow - as well as returning co-star Orlando Bloom as Will Turner - and as such Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has a sizable cinematic legacy to live up to. With the new movie set to feature series newcomer Javier Bardem as the nefarious Captain Armando Salazar, potential viewers are sure to have plenty of fun with the latest installment in the franchise - and the latest estimates have the movie headed for a reasonably lucrative opening weekend.

According to Baywatch, current estimates have Dead Men Tell No Tales outpacing the latter mentioned studio comedy by a wide margin - with a respective $37-$40 million opener for Johnson and Efron.

After suffering at the box office last Memorial Day weekend in the under-performing fantasy sequel that was Alice Through the Looking Glass, Depp is likely angling for a big comeback with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Well known by now for his recent string of personal and professional setbacks, Depp could use a the kind of win that Captain Jack Sparrow has thus far consistently managed to deliver for the aging Hollywood icon.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales appears primed to get back to the roots of the blockbuster feature film property, and with any luck Rønning and Sandberg will manage capably as directors of a welcome return to the highly original fantasy franchise. Depp has wowed audiences in the past with his uncanny performance as Captain Jack Sparrow, and with the likes of Javier Bardem in tow, here's to hoping for another whirlwind turn from everyone's favorite movie pirate.
