  • Anna Camp provides an update on the possibility of Pitch Perfect 4.
  • Camp reminds audiences of her character's story in the third film.
  • The Pitch Perfect franchise has been commercially successful.

Anna Camp shares an update on the status of three Pitch Perfect films, who was introduced as the uptight co-leader of the Barden Bellas in the first film. From her stagefright-filled appearances in Pitch Perfect to her days running the Lodge at Fallen Leaves in Pitch Perfect 2, Aubrey’s storyline goes in multiple directions throughout the trilogy. By the end of Pitch Perfect 3, Aubrey has completely pivoted away from the Barden Bella life, suggesting an unexpected next career path for the character.

Camp references this Aubrey storyline in an exclusive Tribeca Film Festival interview with Screen Rant for her new film Nuked, where the actress also spoke about the prospects of Pitch Perfect 4. According to the actress, she “[doesn’t] think” that Pitch Perfect 4 is in development unfortunately.” She surmised that if Pitch Perfect 4 were to happen, her storyline would have something to do with the end of Pitch Perfect 3, where Aubrey was “wanting to become a doula.” Camp was excited about what possibilities this story held. Check out the full quote from Camp below:

I don't think [Pitch Perfect 4] is in development unfortunately, but if we did get a 4, I mean at the end of three, I was a doula. I was wanting to become a doula. I don't know if anybody ed that. So I would like to see what Aubrey, if she's really delivering children into the world and singing acapella to them as they come out of their mother's bodies, you can print that. And I hope that the writers see it and that we make it. And that is all I have to say on that.

Could Pitch Perfect 4 Happen?

The Pitch Perfect Franchise Is Commercially Successful

Thinking back to the origins of Pitch Perfect, it is amazing that the idea of making a fourth movie in the series is even being suggested. The first Pitch Perfect film was made for a modest $17 million and replete with oddities and musical numbers, but no one could have predicted the viral success the "Cups Song" and Pitch Perfect overall became. This debut film turned a major profit by taking that reasonable budget and turning it into a $115.6 million gross. The series peaked at Pitch Perfect 2, which made $287.1 million on a $29 million budget.

Budget

Domestic Box Office

Worldwide Box Office

Pitch Perfect (2012)

$115.6 million

Pitch Perfect 2 (2015)

$29 million

$184.2 million

$287.1 million

Pitch Perfect 3 (2017)

$45 million

$104.8 million

$185.4 million

The financial success of the Pitch Perfect films would suggest that Pitch Perfect 4 would be likely. However, it is not just Camp’s pessimism that lessens the possibility of another film. Since their Pitch Perfect 3 days, multiple main stars have moved on with their careers. Brittany Snow went on to appear in X, The Night Agent, and Almost Family, whereas Anna Kendrick played a key role in the Trolls franchise as well as the series Love Life. The Pitch Perfect team has gone on to great success since they were in the first movie.

Why Pitch Perfect 4 Never Happened

Pitch Perfect has been a profitable franchise, so why has Pitch Perfect 4 never happened? We break down the reasons and the likelihood of a sequel.

The elevated profile of the main Pitch Perfect stars would make it increasingly difficult to be able to complete Pitch Perfect 4, schedule-wise. At this point, it has been 7 years since Pitch Perfect 3, so the audience interest in the franchise may also be decreasing. If, by some turn of events, Pitch Perfect 4 does come to fruition, at least Camp seems interested in a return.
