One attentive fan has discovered that some PlayStation 1 games will play their game's soundtrack when put inside a CD player. Despite being released long ago throughout the years of 1994-95, the PlayStation 1 console remains very beloved by many gamers. Offering the first opportunity for players to experience gems like Silent Hill, Final Fantasy VII, and Resident Evil on their own televisions, it marked a large turning point for the gaming landscape.
Coming online to bring the news to ResetEra, one PlayStation 1 gamer Pankratous discovered that some PlayStation 1 discs also contain their game's soundtrack. When putting the disc inside a CD player, some discs may begin to play the soundtrack of whatever game they contain. While this isn't for every single PlayStation 1 game, there are a fair few that players will find have their full soundtrack contained within.
Playstation 1 Discs Might Also Contain Hidden Soundtracks
Players Might Find Their Discs Also Work Inside CD Players
As somewhat of a long-lost secret for modern PlayStation 1 fans, some may be eager to try out their Playstation 1 discs inside of CD players to see if their game's soundtrack is available on the disc too. As the original poster Pankratous disclaims a list of all the games that have been discovered to work, gamers should still check out if they have any extra games that might not be on the list. One commenter shared that some games will simply alert with messages like "This is not an audio CD, put it into a PlayStation". Players shouldn't be worried about testing it out.

10 Best PlayStation 1 Games Of All Time
From fighting games like Tekken 3 to racing simulators such as Gran Turismo, Metacritic has ranked some great classics in the PlayStation 1 library.
There may even be more instances where players can make use of this fun little secret, as another commenter adds that it was "fairly common for CD-based games." With the potential for other platforms to also include these hidden soundtracks, players may want to dig out their archives for a nostalgic blast to the past. An incredible list on DigitPress also shares some confirmed games from PlayStation 1 for those who might want to listen, including gems like Tomb Raider, Doom, and Tekken 3.
Our Take: Physical Game Discs Should Still Do This Nowadays
Players Should Still Be Able To Experience Their Game's Soundtracks
Game soundtracks can often be overlooked, but they're an integral part to any game's experience. With many players going to platforms like Spotify or picking up limited edition vinyl for their favorite game's releases, it's clear that soundtracks are still just as popular now as they were on the PlayStation 1. Players' physical discs no longer offer the same CD capabilities as it's now been discovered were once available. Instead, they're forced to go elsewhere if they want to listen to their game's soundtracks.
While it may no longer be possible to have a disc sharing both a game and its CD soundtrack counterpart, it would be incredible if game developers considered adding in a separate CD for players who want the best of both worlds. Though still selling incredible pieces like Battlefield 2042's blue vinyl, it wouldn't hurt for the everyday player to also get access to a soundtrack from a game they're paying full price for. Even a redeemable code may go a long way in giving players access to stunning soundtracks that deserve far more attention, but for now, players can enjoy a nostalgic listen back to their PlayStation 1 discs.
