Catching Shiny Pokémon through Chain Catching is fairly difficult in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Every new Pokémon game in the series features its own way to hunt for these Shiny creatures. Shiny Pokémon, in general, are incredibly rare to find through normal means. The odds of capturing one in Pokémon BDSP is 1/4096. Although, there are a few different ways to increase the odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon. One of these methods is by chaining Pokémon encounters.

This method requires players to have unlocked the Poké Radar, which is only available once the player has defeated the Elite Four and has become the Champion of the Sinnoh region. Using this item while standing in tall grass will cause them to shake. Approaching the moving grass will start a random encounter, often with the chance of finding rarer Pokémon. Fortunately, this also applies to finding Shiny Pokémon. To create a chain, players will either need to capture or defeat the wild Pokémon. If the chain continues, the grass will continue to shake when the game loads back in the overworld.

There is a 93% chance that the chain will continue, although, there is a random 7% chance for the chain to break for no reason. To maintain these odds, the best thing to do is go to the patch of grass the is the farthest away from the player. The farther away from the grass, the higher the chance of the chain continues. Also, using Repeat or Quick Balls is the best way to quickly get through random encounters to keep the chain going. Each successful chain will begin to increase the Shiny Odds.

There are a few things that can break a player's chain, including encountering a different Pokémon. The best thing to do would be to use Max Repels, which can purchase these from almost any Poké Mart within the Sinnoh region. Fortunately, Pokémon BDSP has different Shiny Hunting methods that work by their own rules in case trainers get tired of this one. Although, encountering Shiny Pokémon through Chain Catching is one of the easier ways to find them, it will still require a ton of patience to reach a max chain of 40.
