There is a way for Pokémon Trainers to find and capture Shaymin early in find and catch Darkrai in Pokémon BDSP will need to wait for an event. However, Shaymin is one of the locked-away Pokémon that can be accessed early by exploiting a glitch in the game.
Shaymin is a Mythical Pokémon that originates from the Sinnoh region. In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Trainers were able to find and capture this Grass/Psychic-type Pokémon by reaching Flower Paradise, a location only made available once the player accepts Oak's Letter. This letter is an item that was given to the player as a -only event; however, players were able to access it by using Action Replay Cheat Codes. In the case of Pokémon BDSP, players will need to make it to Victory Road to get Shaymin early.
To find Shaymin, players will need to exploit the Surf Glitch. This glitch is a method where players can teleport through walls and reach areas that aren't accessible. From the Pokémon League, head back into Victory Road and get to Route 224. If the player came here before becoming the Sinnoh Champion and collecting the National Dex, a man previously blocked off the access to this location. Trainers should then head to Route 224 and look for a Black Belt Trainer to perform the glitch.
Surfing To Shaymin Early in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
The Black Belt Trainer will be running around on the beach near Route 224. It's important to mention that this glitch cannot be done if the player has already defeated the Black Belt Trainer on this route beforehand. So make sure to save ahead because this glitch might take a few attempts to pull off successfully. After finding him, prepare to battle three other trainers on the route first.
- Step 1: Sneak around the Black Belt Trainer and avoid battling him.
- Step 2: There will be three other trainers on the route; defeat them all in battle.
- Step 3: Go back to the Black Belt Trainer's location and stand by the water. Make sure to face it.
- Step 4: The Black Belt Trainer will run in circles and eventually encounter the player. When he encounters the player, activate Surf on the water.
- Step 5: Defeat the Black Belt Trainer in battle.
- Step 6: If the glitch was done correctly, the player should be in surf mode. If not, restart the game and try again.
- Step 7: Go up the path where the three trainers were and go to the top left corner of the stairs.
- Step 8: This will cause the player to glitch and go to the water on the left.
- Step 9: Players can now continue north to find Shaymin.
This glitch may be patched out in a future update; however, currently, it is a way for players to get Shaymin early if they want to. Alternatively, Nintendo will likely have an event in the future to release Shaymin legitimately. Players looking to capture other legendary Pokémon can also head over to Ramanas Park to collect Shaymin and the rest of the legendary Pokémon as they are required to complete the game.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.
