Players will return to the Sinnoh region for a familiar adventure in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but the remakes change the method players must use to find and catch Togepi. For long-time fans of everything Pokémon, Togepi is one of the most recognizable characters featured in everything relating to the franchise. Togepi was the original Easter Egg, hinting at more unknown Pokémon waiting to be discovered in the television series since it was undiscoverable in the Kanto region. Pokémon BDSP include the fan-favorite once more, but the remakes have changed how players can acquire a Togepi for themselves.
In addition to a new find and capture method, Togepi received a new typing in the remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The sixth generation of Pokémon introduced Fairy-type Pokémon to fans, and this recast the typings of some Pokémon, including Togepi. Togepi is now a Pokémon BDSP, and its evolutions have also been changed from Normal/Flying to Fairy/Flying. The type recasting significantly changes how Togepi and its evolutions play because they have new strengths, weaknesses, and resistances. As a Fairy-type Pokémon, Togepi receives twice the amount of damage from Steel- and Poison-type moves, half the damage from Fighting-, Dark-, and Bug-types, and is completely immune to Dragon-type moves in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players can catch a Togepi as soon as they receive the Grand Underground Explorer Kit. The Explorer Kit is a key item obtained from the elderly NPC in the house next to the Pokémon Center in Eterna City, and it allows players to explore the Grand Underground in Pokémon BDSP. The Grand Underground is an upgraded version of the underground feature from the original Diamond and Pearl, but a major this area is the cave system containing rare Pokémon. Togepi is one of the rare Pokémon located in the underground, and, although it won't appear in the Sinnoh Pokédex, it can be caught long before players receive the National Pokédex.
Pokémon BDSP: How To Find, Catch, & Evolve Togepi
Togepi can be found in one of two environments in the Grand Underground of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: the Dazzling Cave and the Fountainspring Cave. In both caves, Togepi has about a 10% chance to spawn every time players enter either one. If Togepi doesn't spawn, then players can leave the cave and return to reset every Pokémon inside. Additionally, catching Togepi in the Pokémon BDSP Grand Underground ensures it comes with an egg move, a move that can only be obtained when Togepi is hatched rather than captured.
To evolve Togepi, players will need to first raise its friendship level high enough to make it happy. This can be done by feeding it certain berries, walking with the Pokémon, and winning battles. After Togepi evolves into Togetic, players can use a Shiny Stone to evolve it further into Togekiss. Shiny Stones are rare evolution stones, and players can find one of them on Iron Island and another on Route 228. Togekiss is one of the most powerful Fairy-types in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and is definitely worth adding one to the party.
Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are available on Nintendo Switch.
