Pokémon has continued to expand to have a huge range of creatures to catch, train, and battle. Some of these are remarkably quick, with the Nintendo game setting their base stats extremely high. However, some pokémon don't exactly look fast.

Despite their appearance, though, they are incredibly agile and may be one of the fastest moving creatures in the game. Looks don't always equal speed, and there are a great many reasons as to why a pokémon may be very quick, without looking at it at all. The games always include the element of surprise, after all.

Whimsicott

Whimiscott Pokemon

Whimsicott is the least fast—which is to say the slowest—pokémon on this list, but, having said that, it does have a base speed of 116, which is incredibly fast. It's deceiving, as the creature is very small with tiny legs and a shape that isn't exactly aerodynamic.

This pokémon isn't as it appears, though. A grass and fairy type, it actually gains some of its speed from its fairy origins. What's more, it can actually manipulate its body to go through tiny spaces, making it even harder to catch and faster moving.

Minior

A close-up image of Minior from Pokemon

Minior is slightly faster, at 120 in of the base speed. Although, as with any pokémon, this can be upgraded with sufficient training. This pokémon is quite odd from the start, as it's one of the few without discernible features.

What's more, this rock type pokémon is also a flying type, which is how it picks up speed so fast. On top of that, it actually has the ability to transform, making it entirely unpredictable on the battlefield. It can certainly make a quick escape if it needs to.

Dugtrio

Dugtrio Pokemon

A Dugtrio is quite the classic pokémon. It's been around for some time, and there are now even variations that have their own hair. The gaggle of pokémon is known for digging, which is actually how they move around so fast.

Since they are so great at going underground and avoiding aboveground obstacles, they actually have a base speed of 120, as well. So, despite the fact that they don't really look like much, underneath the dirt, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Darkrai

Darkrai Pokemon

Darkrai is incredibly powerful. As a mythical or legendary pokémon, this dark type is quite ghostly in its appearance. However, it also seems big and lumbering. Luckily, it can float in the air, which is why it has its 125 base stat for speed.

Moving incredibly fast, it's likely why so many trainers and pokémon alike are so scared of him. He looks as strong as he is, but speed is yet another element that many wouldn't think they would have to contend with.

Shaymin

Shaymin Pokemon

Shaymin is an incredibly small pokémon. While there's a chance that it could be fairly speedy based on appearance, once realizing how little its legs are, there seems like no way that this could be one of the fastest pokémon in the franchise.

But, with a base stat rate at 127, not only is this pokémon faster than some other mythical ones in the game, but it's also got a legendary status of its own which complements its grass type abilities so well that it's one of the best fighters to have on a team.

Meloetta

Meloetta Pokemon

Meloetta is very spindly and small. While this can be good for runners, its hair isn't very aerodynamic, and it looks as if it wouldn't be able to run fast for very long. It's a pokémon that also doesn't really look like it's built for battle, but looks are always deceiving.

The base stat of this pokémon is 128, which is very surprising compared to others on this list. Both a normal and psychic pokémon, its speed comes from these powers. It actually has different forms, as well, once again meaning it is unpredictable.

Necrozma

Necrozma as seen in Pokémon Sun & Moon

Necrozma is a terrifying pokémon. If it was to appear in a live-action film in the future, it's sure to be a misunderstood villain, considering its dark and shadowy nature. It's made all the scarier by the fact that it can move so fast, as well.

This is another legendary pokémon, which is why it has such a high base stat of 129. This is a large creature, with quite small legs and a large torso. It's purely by its sheer power that it can move so fast, as it isn't built for such speeds.

Gengar

Gengar Pokemon

Gengar is a ghostly pokémon, with a couple of different types defining him. The third evolution from a Ghastly, it's difficult to see how this creature would move so fast. However, it's ghostly nature makes it perfect to be able to move swiftly.

Despite its size and major lack of aerodynamic features, the creature almost floats and can even through solid objects, giving it an advantage. The classic character weirdly has an incredible speed stat of 130.

Alakazam

Alakazam Pokemon

Alakazam is one of those pokémon that may as well not exist, considering how beloved Abra is. However, the character is so powerful and faster than many may think, compared to his previous evolutions.

As a psychic pokémon, Alakazam shows abilities that other pokémon simply can't compare to. Even when carrying its trademark spoons, the character uses its incredible gifts and its 150 speed stat to move at high velocity.

Electrode

Electrode Electrode

Electrode is a huge ball of electricity. While this kind of power does travel fast in the real world, it seems unlikely that this bulbous creature would be all that mobile.

Yet, considering its powers and the fact that it floats in the air, Electrode has a base stat of 150, as well, but it is overall slightly faster than an Alakazam. In of looks, it seems as if this pokémon should be the least likely to be top of the list.
