It's possible to capture a Celebi during the Pokémon Go Johto Tour. Similar to the Kanto Tour event that took place last year, the Johto Tour is a event focused on all Pokémon from Pokémon Gold and Silver. For the first time ever, every Pokémon from that region will appear in their Shiny form. Since this is a event, trainers will need to purchase a ticket for $11.99 USD in order to participate. There will be a few free-to-play things happening in-game like small bonuses, but all the real fun comes from the new special research.

The Pokémon Go Johto Tour includes its own set of special research tasks for players to clear out. Since this is a paid event, the rewards aren't too shabby. Not only is it a great way to get candy, berries, XP, rare encounters, and forced Shiny Pokémon, but also more legendary Pokémon. This means if the player completes a certain special research task, they will be rewarded with an event-exclusive Pokémon. There are two that can be unlocked through this event, Shiny Gyarados and Celebi.

In order to unlock Celebi during the Pokémon Go Johto Tour, the player will need to reach at least step 8 of the event's special research. Each step is broken up into three challenges, each with its own rewards. Completing the first three will unlock access to the next three and so on.
