Eevee is a highly popular Pokémon in Pokémon GO and the wider Pokémon franchise. Unlike other Pokémon, Eevee can evolve into one of eight different evolutions: Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon, Sylveon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, or Glaceon. Each of these evolutions transforms from a Normal-type to an Electric, Water, Fire, Fairy, Psychic, Dark, Grass, or Ice-type, respectively.

Eevees are often found wandering the world in Pokémon GO, making them easy to catch. However, naturally evolving every Eevee would make collecting the eight Eevee evolutions a rather difficult task. Luckily, there is a well-known trick to make sure your Eevee evolves as you desire.

How To Guarantee A Specific Eevee Evolution

All Eevee Evolution Nicknames

Once you get your hands on an Eevee, their nicknames are the key to evolving them into your desired evolution. Like every other Pokémon game, Pokémon Go allows players to nickname their Pokémon at any given time. While nicknames typically change nothing about a Pokémon, Eevee is unique. There are eight specific nicknames that, when used, will evolve Eevee into one of the eight evolutions, or Eeveelutions, as they are often called.

Pokemon Go: How To Evolve Eevee

Eevee has one of seven different evolutions currently available in Pokemon Go. This guide will help players understand how to get every single one.

To nickname your Pokémon, pick the Eevee of your choice and then tap the pen icon next to their name. From there, you can input your Pokémon's new name. This trick will allow you to collect all eight Eevee evolutions, but the nickname trick will only work once per Eeveelution. This is particularly important if you're hoping to have strong Eeveelutions because if you waste the trick on a 10 Eevee, you'll have a weak Eeveelution and be forced to naturally evolve another if you want a stronger one.

You can the name trick is going to work by looking at the silhouette of the evolution before you tap evolve. Instead of a question mark, you should see a silhouette of the Eeveelution you're trying to obtain after typing in the name and saving it.

The names for each corresponding Eeveelution are as follows:

Eevee Evolution

Type

Nickname

Jolteon

Electric

Sparky

Flareon

Fire

Pyro

Vaporeon

Water

Rainer

Espeon

Psychic

Sakura

Sylveon

Fairy

Kira

Umbreon

Dark

Tamao

Leafeon

Grass

Linnea

Glaceon

Ice

Rea

Note that this trick will have zero effect on Eevee or the Eeveelution's shiny odds in Pokémon Go. The only way to get a shiny Eeveelution is to evolve a shiny Eevee. As long as you've done that, the Eeveelution will be shiny regardless of whether you utilize this naming trick. This is another thing to if you're hoping to have all shiny Eeveelutions, as you may want to save the trick for shiny Eevees.

How To Naturally Evolve Eevee

All Evolution Requirements

Eevee and its many evolutions in Pokemon

When the Eevee nickname trick has been used, but you still want to evolve another Eevee into a specific evolution, you must do so using the in-game requirements. All eight evolutions occur based on either RNG or specific player actions.

No matter what you do, your Eevee has a 33% chance of turning into either Vaporeon, Flareon, or Jolteon. These three evolutions are the default due to their position as the original three evolution outcomes, and there is no way to influence which one you'll receive as it is entirely random among these three. To obtain any Eeveelution aside from these three, additional requirements must be met.

Shiny Eevee can be involved in one of its many evolutionary forms. This guide will show players where to find and capture it in Pokemon Go.

Espeon and Umbreon ask you to walk 6.2 miles/10 km with Eevee as your buddy to unlock them as possible evolutions, but you must schedule the evolution time depending on which one you want. To get Espeon, evolve your buddy Eevee during the day, and to get Umbreon in Pokémon Go, evolve your buddy Eevee during the night.

For Leafeon and Glaceon, you will need to use Lures, specifically Mossy Lures and Glacial Lures. Depending on which one you want, insert one of the two Lures into a PokéStop and then evolve your Eevee near the PokéStop to unlock the associated type. Use a Mossy Lure for Leafeon and a Glacial Lure for Glaceon.

Sinnoh Stones are an incredibly rare evolutionary item in Pokémon GO, with over 18 unique Pokémon in total that evolve by using these special items.

Lastly, Sylveon can only be obtained if you have earned 70 Hearts with the Eevee of your choice, which you can earn by making them your buddy Pokémon. This technique guarantees a Sylveon in Pokémon Go, as its icon replaces the question mark, similar to the nicknames. Ensure you're keeping track of your goals before hitting the evolve button so you don't accidentally waste time on the wrong Eeveelution, and try to save the nicknames for the right Eevee in Pokémon Go.
