There are plenty of exciting Raid Bosses to take on in Pokémon GO throughout September 2024, including the long-overdue return of a Legendary creature from the Galar region, Zacian, which makes its Shiny debut. There's also a new type of Raid Battle to discover this month, with Dynamax Pokémon appearing in the game for the very first time.
Raid Battles are an important part of the Pokémon GO experience, letting Trainers team up with each other to battle and catch rare Legendary Pokémon. Taking part in Mega Raids is also the only way to get Mega Energy to Mega-Evolve your own Pokémon, and with new Max Battles making their debut in September, there's even more reason to get involved.

5-Star Raid Bosses In September 2024
Battle And Catch A Galar-Region Legendary
During the month of September, Trainers will be able to take on Kyogre, Groudon, and Zacian in 5-Star Raid Battles. While Kyogre and Groudon are fairly common sights in the game at this point, Zacian hasn't been available to encounter since 2022, so this is a great opportunity to catch one if you missed it the first time around.

Kartana with a Grass-type moveset will be your best option to defeat both Kyogre and Groudon, with from Pokémon like Zarude, Shaymin, Roserade, Tsareena, Chesnaught, Decidueye, and Venusaur. When battling Zacian, focus on strong Poison-type Pokémon like Nihilego, Naganadel, and Overqwil, or high-level Steel-types like Dialga, Metagross, and Excadril.
All three of these 5-Star Raid Bosses can be encountered as rare Shiny variants in Pokémon GO, including Zacian, which makes its long-awaited Shiny debut this month. The chances of finding a Shiny Pokémon are typically very slim, but it's worth a try for Shiny hunters who are looking to expand their collection.
Mega Raid Bosses In September 2024
Darkness Reigns With These Mega Raid Battles
During the month of September, Trainers can take on Mega Absol, Mega Houndoom, and Mega Gardevoir in Mega Raid Battles. All three of these Pokémon are top-tier attackers in their respective typings, so it's worth battling them and stocking up on their Mega Energy while you can. that they'll be incredibly powerful, so team up with as many Trainers as you can.

Mega Absola and Mega Houndoom can both be defeated by Fighting-type Pokémon such as Terrakion, Cobalion, Machamp, Hariyama, and Breloom. If you're looking to battle Mega Gardevoir, bring along Steel-types like Dialga, Metagross, and Excadrill; strong Poison-types like Nihilego, Naganadel, and Overqwil; or powerful Ghost-types like Giratina, Gengar, and Chandelure.
Dynamax Raid Bosses In September 2024
A New Type Of Opponent Arrives In Pokémon GO
This month, Trainers can look forward to battling Dynamax Pokémon in Max Battles for the very first time in Pokémon GO. These limited-time Raid Bosses can be found at Power Spots, which will appear on the map at random locations throughout the month. They'll work a little differently from regular Raid Battles, with more information set to be revealed soon.
The following Dynamax Pokémon will appear in Max Battles at Power Stops from September 10 to October 1, 2024:
- Dynamax Bulbasaur
- Dynamax Charmander
- Dynamax Squirtle
- Dynamax Skwovet
- Dynamax Wooloo
Niantic has confirmed that you'll get a chance to catch Dynamax Pokémon after defeating them in Max Battles. These Pokémon, as well as their evolutions like Blastoise and Charizard, can then be Dynamaxed in future Max Battles, although it doesn't look like they can be Dynamaxed in regular Raid Battles.
Aside from these 5-Star Raids, Mega Raids, and Max Raids, there will be a selection of rotating event-themed 1-Star Raid Bosses and 3-Star Raid Bosses to take on throughout September. Trainers can also battle Shadow Raikou in special Shadow Raids on weekends. It's an exciting time to be playing Pokémon GO, that's for sure.
