Warning: Spoilers for Pokémon Horizons, Episode #12The Pokémon Horizons anime has finally tipped its hand and revealed the core plot of the series, and it's all focusing on one legendary adventurer who may well be the strongest trainer ever seen in the anime. This trainer was responsible for catching the shiny Black Rayquaza, plus five more legendary ultra-rare Pokémon, which could put him in a whole different league from any other trainer seen until now.
Episode #11 of Pokémon Horizons revealed the existence of a second Ancient Poké Ball, like the one that held Black Rayquaza, opening the possibility for a full set of six. As Liko and Roy help out the Arboliva that watches over the destroyed forest, it's ultimately pleased with their performance enough to return to its own Ancient Poké Ball, entrusting the ball to Roy. In episode #12, Liko and Roy do a bit of research, which involves reading a legend from one of Liko's father's books. Through this they discover that the legendary adventurer Lucius that Roy had heard tales of is real, and that these ancient Poké Balls were his, revealing that there's a full team of six out there to find.
The Legendary Pokémon Adventurer Was Insanely Powerful
With Arboliva now in an Ancient Poké Ball, two of the six are known: the Black Rayquaza, and this Titan-sized Arboliva. In the world of the anime, catching a Legendary Pokémon is an incredible rarity. The Legendaries are generally portrayed as fully self-aware beings with their own thoughts and feelings who don't really appreciate being captured, and are thus typically left to their duties. Even in cases where Legendaries were caught, such as Goh's Suicune, it was only possible because Goh respected Suicune's desire to travel and purify polluted waters.
To have not only caught a Legendary, but a shiny Legendary that happens to be one of the strongest, this adventurer must have been quite the trainer. The Titan-sized Arboliva is similarly impressive, as giant Pokémon like this are usually portrayed as uncatchable due to their sheer size. One can only imagine what other Pokémon this adventurer must have had on his team, since the Ancient Poké Balls themselves are treated like treasure. The picture book in which Liko and Roy read the legend has some simple illustrations, but they're not clearly identifiable as specific Pokémon. The most that can be said is that there appear to be two flying Pokémon, a water Pokémon, and one land-bound Pokémon.
Pokémon Horizons Reveal The Strongest Team In History
The reveal of multiple Ancient Poké Balls also explains why Rayquaza headed to the Paldea region: to check on its friends. Following Rayquaza may well lead to the other Ancient Poké Balls as well, and if Arboliva is any indication, they aren't all simply waiting inside a sealed ball. This is definitely looking like it will be the major plot arc for Pokémon Horizons, and while simple, it's a great one with the potential to see some really cool Pokémon, which is exactly what fans want from a Pokémon anime.
