According to a reputable leaker, Pokémon Legends: Arceus will play much more like Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee than the series' latest installment Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. This will come as an exciting twist to fans who preferred Pokémon Let's Go's gameplay, or just those looking for something new after finishing the Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus has been one of the most anticipated installments in the Pokémon series of games, as it will take players back to the very beginning of the Pokémon universe. The game will take place before people settled and built up the region that would become known as Sinnoh. Players will be tasked with creating the region's first Pokédex. The game will also introduce new Hisuian Pokémon to the series, which are ancestors of the Pokémon players know today as they existed in the ancient region of Hisui. The setting and objective that have been revealed about Pokémon Legends: Arceus seems to indicate that the game will be more focused on the player capturing many different Pokémon as opposed to the typical plot of defeating gym leaders and eventually the Pokémon League.
This notion appears to have been confirmed by one Pokémon leaker on Twitter known as Riddler_Khu (as first reported by Dexerto). According to Riddler_Khu, responding to a fellow fan's question, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set to be more in line with a game like Pokémon Let's Go, with emphasis on collecting and catching to fulfill the game's quest. Referring to Pokémon Legends: Arceus Riddler_Khu, goes so far as to essentially call the game Pokémon Let's Go 2. Riddler_Khu does point out that there will be additional action elements that will differentiate the two games, but, if this information is correct, it seems that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will have an easy comparison in the series.
Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee were largely well-received Pokémon games, which were seen as spiritual remakes of the classic game Pokémon Yellow. The game was described as less of a "grindy" experience due to increasing the amount of tools trainers could use to level their Pokémon. This will, apparently, not be the case for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, as players may need to level their Pokémon to access new areas of the map.
The biggest distinction, for many players, is that Pokémon Let's Go felt more like Pokémon GO, with increased emphasis on catching and collecting, rather than the single-player RPG that the series has been known for. Knowing that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be following in these footsteps appears to be ready to hit that sweet spot for players, but it remains to be seen how exactly Pokémon Legends: Arceus finds that balance.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be available for Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2022.
