This includes a reprisal of one particularly memorable encounter found in the original incarnation of Lumiose City.
There are plenty of theories surrounding Pokémon Legends: Z-A at present, fueled largely by how little is known about the game. Nevertheless, the franchise as a whole commonly includes both callbacks to previous titles and even hints towards future games. Moreover, considering that the game is focused on Lumiose City, it is reasonable to assume that the game’s events will tie in to the setting’s debut appearance in Generation 6. Considering some of the strange scenarios that people can come across, this means that there is plenty of source material to build on.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A starters likely won't be from the Kalos region, but will probably be pulled from existing Pokémon with French inspirations.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Could See The Return Of The Lumiose City Ghost Girl
Unexplained Encounter In Pokémon X & Y
Lumiose City was a sprawling cityscape in Pokémon X and Y, with more than one Easter egg helping to bring it to life. Perhaps the most infamous of these is the Lumiose City Ghost Girl, a mysterious Hex Maniac NPC who successfully disturbed many people in a short but memorable encounter. Appearing and disappearing with no explanation, there has been no official explanation given for her existence. Now, however, Legends: Z-A has the perfect opportunity to explain the origins of the spirit who infamously haunts Lumiose City.
Meeting the Lumiose City Ghost Girl is a unique, one-time-only encounter occurring on an empty floor of an office building found along North Boulevard. In a short cutscene, when the protagonist rides the elevator to the building’s second floor, the lights flicker and the ghost appears. Unlike most NPCs, her sprite is frozen mid-walk as she moves, immediately highlighting the fact that she is something out of the ordinary. Ambiguously dismissing the player character as “not the one,” the ghost girl slowly moves off-screen and promptly vanishes, leaving behind a multitude of questions and no clear answers.
The Lumiose City Ghost Girl’s dialogue appears to be referenced by another (albeit fully animated) Hex Maniac in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire’s Mt. Pyre. However, it is unclear what, if any, connection exists between the two.
Although some fan theories tie this strange event to other Hex Maniac encounters and strange messages found around Lumiose City, a full explanation has never come to light. With it focusing on the same city as its setting, Legends: Z-A could easily expand upon this woman’s story, perhaps even revealing the beginning of her haunting. Of course, the most obvious way for this to occur is for a new encounter with the ghost to be included in the game, but the ghost girl’s story could just as easily be conveyed through urban legends told by other NPCs.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A May Provide Another Mysterious Scare For Players
Lumiose City Ghost Girl May Remain A Mystery
Despite being considered family-friendly as a whole, the collect Spiritomb Wisps in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The games have also depicted the deaths of NPCs, such as an old man met in Anistar City who asks for a low-level Pokémon to keep him company. Because of this, it would not be unprecedented for Legends: Z-A to depict the death of the Lumiose City Ghost Girl, or at least the circumstances surrounding it.
Of course, even if the ghostly Hex Maniac does reappear, this is no guarantee that any answers will be forthcoming. It is equally possible that her reappearance could be just as strange and ambiguous as her debut, serving to only deepen the mystery surrounding her. Although disappointing for those in search of answers, this would have just as much potential to be a fun experience for people to have. An inexplicable encounter could have a striking impact, perhaps even more so than a more direct explanation, and therefore prove to be an effective piece of horror in its own right.
Despite being confined to Lumiose City, there is so much that can be done with the story of Legends: Z-A. It is logical to assume that it will include various connections to both Pokémon X and Y as a whole and the games’ original depiction of the city, and so smaller moments like the Lumiose City Ghost Girl have every chance of being referenced in the new title. Only time will tell what new twists Pokémon Legends: Z-A will bring to this mysterious story, but any new content is sure to be a spooky delight.
