As one of the starter types, Grass has always been one of the most beloved in the Pokémon franchise, and many trainers utilize Grass-types on their playthrough teams. The type tends to face some challenges offensively, however. While it is super-effective against three types, seven others resist it.

Despite this downside, Grass can still excel in the attacking department with help from some of its strongest moves. Through dealing massive amounts of damage and sometimes having additional effects like lowering opponents' stats or healing the , these Grass-type moves can give players an edge and help them to defeat some tough NPCs.

Wood Hammer

Abomasnow uses Wood Hammer in the Pokemon anime

Wood Hammer is an incredibly destructive attack with a significant downside. It has a base power of 120 and a base accuracy of 100%, so it will consistently connect, barring accuracy drops in the , evasion boosts in the target, etc.

However, the receives a third of the damage dealt against the enemy as recoil damage. This effect can be avoided with the Ability Rock Head, but the only Pokémon that can learn Wood Hammer and have Rock Head as an Ability is Sudowoodo.

Sappy Seed

Eevee uses Sappy Seed in Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee!

In Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!, the partner Eevee gains a signature move for each of the types of the evolutions it would usually have, as well as one for Eevee's Normal typing. Though Leafeon may not be the best Eeveelution in the Pokémon series, Sappy Seed, Eevee's Grass-type signature move in Let's Go, can be extremely useful in a playthrough.

The attack has a base power of 100 and a base accuracy of 90%. Upon making , Sappy Seed also has the effect of Leech Seed on the target, draining one-eighth of its health and restoring it to the or any Pokémon that takes its place at the end of each turn.

Solar Beam

Bulbasaur uses Solar Beam in the Pokemon anime

With a base power of 120 and a base accuracy of 100%, Solar Beam is a commonly utilized Special category Grass-type attack. The drawback is that in most cases, the strike takes two turns to use, with the Pokémon charging on the first and unleashing the attack on the second.

However, in certain circumstances, like in harsh sunlight, Solar Beam only requires one turn to use. The same is true if the holds a Power Herb, though the item is consumed as a result. A multitude of Pokémon can learn the move through leveling up, TM, etc., and it can be incredible for a playthrough, granted that the player does not mind the initial turn of charging.

Solar Blade

Lurantis starts using Solar Blade against Litten in the Pokemon anime

Introduced in Generation VII, Solar Blade is similar to Solar Beam in many ways. Both require the first turn to charge, except for in certain conditions like during harsh sunlight or while holding a Power Herb. Both also have a base accuracy of 100%.

However, Solar Blade is slightly stronger than Solar Beam, with a base power of 125. It is also different because, unlike Solar Beam, Solar Blade is a Physical move, making it a better option for those that excel in this category.

Power Whip

Venusaur in the Pokemon anime

Power Whip is not the most dependable Grass-type attack in the series because of its base accuracy of 85%. It connects a majority of the time, though, and when it does, it can do immense damage with its base power of 120.

Power Whip is accessible to some of the best dual-type Grass creatures, as well as to many others via several acquiring means. It is best to use it on a Physical specialist, but even if the has a mediocre Physical Attack stat, Power Whip is often viable in a playthrough because of its sheer power.

Leaf Storm

Torterra uses Leaf Storm in the Pokemon anime

Leaf Storm has a base accuracy of 90%, which makes it usually, but not always, reliable. The attack does an incredible amount of damage because of its base power of 130, but there is a notable caveat. Leaf Storm lowers the 's Special Attack stat by two stages after its use.

Leaf Storm is an attack in the Special category, so this stat reduction limits it from dealing the same amount of damage of subsequent turns. If the can knock out the enemy in one blow and not have to deal with more opposing team afterward, this effect has no impact, but it can otherwise make the attack less viable as the battle continues, so trainers must use it wisely.

Seed Flare

Sky Form Shaymin using Seed Flare in the Pokémon games

Seed Flare, one of the most powerful moves with an additional effect, can be a valuable tool to have. The signature move of Shaymin has a base power of 120, but it has the same problem as Power Whip, in that its base accuracy of 85% also causes it to occasionally miss.

Using the attack is usually worth the risk, though. When it connects, Seed Flare has a 40% chance to lower the opponent's Special Defense by two stages, which, if it activates, allows it to take away even more of the enemy's health in subsequent rounds.

Frenzy Plant

Torterra Uses Frenzy Plant In The Pokemon Anime

Frenzy Plant is only accessible to the fully evolved Grass starter Pokémon in most circumstances, and it can be used to devastating effect. It has a base power of 150, allowing it to eliminate a large number of enemies in a single strike. It may not be entirely reliable with its base accuracy of 90%, but more often than not, it will hit the opponent and deal incredible damage as a result.

The drawback of Frenzy Plant, though, is that after its use, the Pokémon must recharge on the following turn. It tends to be worth the turn of recharging, however.

Petal Dance

Vileplume jumps in the Pokemon anime

Petal Dance is a terrifying attack that often requires commitment. Upon selection, Petal Dance is used for two to three turns, after which the becomes confused. In those two to three turns, though, the attack is a destructive force.

It has a base power of 120 and a base accuracy of 100%. Also, the attack targets a random adjacent opponent, so in double battles, the trainer cannot choose which of the enemies the strike hits. These elements make it similar to Outrage, one of the most powerful Dragon moves in the Pokémon franchise. Trainers must be willing to commit to these effects, but Petal Dance can sometimes sweep through enemy teams with its strength.

G-Max Drum Solo

Gigantamax Rillaboom uses G-Max Drum Solo in a Pokemon game

Most Max Moves have a base power that changes with the attack it is based on, but Gigantamax Rillaboom's exclusive G-Max Drum Solo is an exception, with a consistent base power of 160. It also byes the accuracy check, so it essentially always hits.

It ignores the target's Ability, and its category changes depending on that of the move associated with it. Because it is a Max Move, Gigantamax Rillaboom can use it, at most, three times per battle and only in specific conditions in-game, but it often does enough damage to definitively sway battles in the 's favor.
