Grafaiai is the new Toxic Monkey Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It is a Poison- and Normal-type Pokémon said to enjoy painting trees. Although not difficult to catch, it can be hard to reach, especially early in the game.
New Generation 9 Pokémon can be found throughout the Paldean region, making them tempting to find for every collector. Grafaiai is no exception. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Grafaiai is the evolution of the much smaller Pokémon, Shroodle. Grafaiai can help fill out the roster on any trainer’s team, as Poison-types have good offensive moves that help break down tough enemies over time.
Grafaiai Locations in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Grafaiai is only found in one area of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in its evolved form, the Tagtree Thicket. The Thicket can be difficult to get into but the easiest way is from the Pokémon Center in East Province (Three). Tagtree Thicket is also home to the Poison Base of Team Star, so trainers can find the thicket by marking the base on their maps. The entrance to the thicket can be seen from that center. Once inside, it should be relatively straightforward to find a Grafaiai, as they tend to gather in clumps. The painted trees also hint at Grafaiai’s presence.
The open-world nature of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can give trainers hoping to catch Grafaiai an advantage, as they could head toward Tagtree Thicket immediately. However, to get there, players must complete Scheder’s Squad Base, the Fire Base of Team Star and through Levincia, home to the Electric Gym. Despite the Pokémon Gyms being optional while traversing Paldea, the Team Star Base is not. So, if a trainer wants a slightly easier time gaining a Grafaiai, it might be easier to find a Shroodle and evolve it. Shroodle can be found in more places around Paldea, including lower-level areas such as Los Platos, South Province (Area Four), and the area to the east of Artazon, part of East Province (Area One). Shroodle will evolve into Grafaiai around level 28.
As a dual Poison- and Normal-type, Grafaiai is quite a unique Pokémon. It is only weak to Ground- and Psychic-types. Grafaiai is also immune to Ghost-types and resistant to four types: Poison, Bug, Grass, and Fairy. This can make Grafaiai a strong member of any Pokémon Scarlet and Violet team, as it is quite hard to hit and as well as being able to poison them.
