The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were announced on Pokémon Day as something of a surprise, since many fans believed it was way too soon for another Pokémon game. The end of 2021 saw the release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, while early 2022 saw the launch of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, so it hasn't been that long since fresh Pokémon content was available on the Nintendo Switch.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will begin the ninth generation of Pokémon games, but probably won't be the final generation on the Nintendo Switch, considering the enduring popularity of the system and the fact that Pokémon games are among the best-selling titles on the console. It seems that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are going in a new direction for the series, as they're taking an open-world approach, with the player able to tackle the Gyms in any order they choose. There are also more options for Scarlet and Violet multiplayer content, with up to four players able to explore the world, trade, battle, and race their Legendary Pokémon motorcycles together.
The latest Pokémon Presents for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet revealed a lot of new information about the games, including the Terastal Phenomenon, the identity of one of the Gym Leaders, some of the new Pokémon, and some of the regional variants of existing Pokémon. It was also revealed that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will take place in the Paldea region, which is based on Spain and Portugal. Fans won't have to wait long to explore Paldea with their friends, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are only a few months away.
Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Are Launching In November
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022. This makes the games the last big Nintendo Switch exclusives of the year, at least outside of Japan, with Bayonetta 3's release date confirmed for October 28, a few weeks before Scarlet and Violet. Nintendo has confirmed that the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been delayed to 2023, and the fact that there are mainline Pokémon games ready to pick up the slack over the holiday season like made the decision to push the game back easier.
The Nintendo Switch has had an amazing year, especially in light of so many big PlayStation and Xbox games being delayed to 2023. In 2022, the Nintendo Switch saw the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Live A Live, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Mario Strikers: Battle League, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Triangle Strategy, with Splatoon 3 and Bayonetta 3 still to come. The only other big title releasing at the end of the year is God of War: Ragnorok on November 9, which means Kratos will be competing with Pokémon this holiday season.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be released for Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022.
