With Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's Three Story Campaigns, ExplainedThe deeper story implication is that Professor Sada doesn't actually exist as a character in the world of Pokémon Violet. The new dual Professor feature immediately sparked theories that each edition of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was actually a different version of the Paldea region that had been reshaped by the past. Below is a breakdown and list of the strangest time travel theories that could potentially be a part of Gen 9's story campaign.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Legendaries Are The Result of Time Travel?

When Game Freak released the gameplay update in June, one of the things that stood out in the trailer was the game's focus on the past and the future. This was immediately apparent in the Scarlet and Violet Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon. For example, Pokémon Scarlet's mascot has organic scales and skin as well as a physical tire that is sticking out of its chest. In comparison, Pokémon Violet's Legendary Miraidon is made up of titanium metal and has electronic LCD-made eyes. Looking at the Legendaries side-by-side though, their design is nearly identical except for the material they are made up of.

Because of their similarities, many fans believed that Miraidon was actually Koraidon from the future. Given the series' recent focus on expanding on its evolution mechanic though, it's more likely that the Legendaries are instead the same species - with Scarlet being the past version of the Pokémon, while Violet features the future version. Still, it begs the question of how Pokémon Violet is able to have a Pokémon evolution that is from the future in the first place. Various Pokémon Scarlet and Violet leaks speculate that there will be a time travel gameplay mechanic or storyline that explains the futuristic Legendary evolution.

Paldea Region Pokémon Professors Are Connected By Time Travel Mechanic

Another theory centers around Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Professors. Sticking with the themes of past and present, Sada's outfit resembles ancient tribal wear, whereas Turo has a futuristic bodysuit that sits under his lab coat. The popular theory about the dual Professors first popped up in July, when prominent Pokémon leaker Riddler_Khu tweeted out a movie poster from the 2006 science fiction film The Lake House. In the Romance story, the two main characters send messages from the past and future by putting letters in a mailbox. The mysterious image seemed to imply that Scarlet and Violet would have some sort of time travel story or mechanic between two of the game's characters.

Because each Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Professor only exist in their version of the game, this had many fans theorizing the two protagonists could be connected through time travel. The theory received more fuel in August when leaker Riddler Khu posted a second image pointing out that Gen 9 Rival Arven has genetic features from both Sada and Turo. Following this tweet, players began wondering if Arven is actually the child of both the Professors. As of October, the theory goes that Arven is trying to reconnect the two star-crossed lovers separated by time. While it's impossible to know how accurate this is, it's fascinating that Game Freak chose to make the Paldea region rival a spitting image of both Sada and Turo who are exclusive to each version of Scarlet and Violet.

Scarlet & Violet Has A New Time Travel Pokémon Variant

One of the biggest leaks swirling around Gen 9 is that Game Freak will debut a new variant called Paradox Pokémon that has two forms. According to several leakers, the new variants will be a part of Scarlet and Violet's exclusive Pokémon. In Scarlet, players will be able to catch Paradox Pokémon that have Ancient forms, while Violet will feature Future forms of the Paradox variant. While Game Freak has not yet officially confirmed these new forms, the same leakers had leaked the new Water-type Diglett species' Wiglett months before it was officially unveiled in a trailer in September.

With both versions of Gen 9 reportedly having new ancient and future versions of popular Pokémon, its led players to speculate that the new forms could be tied to a time travel mechanic. Similar to the Paldea Legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon, the new evolution form would be tied to the past and present. This again raises the question of how Game Freak will implement the time-traveling evolutions. The most popular theory is that the Pokémon Legends: Arceus Space Time Distortion feature could make an appearance in Paldea and allow players to catch the new Pokémon from various points in time.
