Setting up your deck right in Battling is a huge part of Pokémon TCG Pocket, but with over 200 cards already in the game and endless combinations for decks, it can be overwhelming for beginners.

In Pokémon TCG Pocket, you can face off against the AI, random online opponents, or even friends using a 20-card deck of your choice. One of the strongest cards currently available is the Charizard EX card, but building the best possible deck to it is key to getting the most from the Generation One Fire-type. It is one of the best decks in TCG Pocket, and players should aim to build it quickly when starting in Pokémon TCG Pocket. In the game's opening week, I have found it one of the toughest decks to overcome when facing it.

The Charizard EX card has two attacks, one requiring three energy cards, Slash, which deals 60 damage to the opponent. However, the other move, Crimson Storm, does 200 damage, making it the strongest move currently in Pokémon TCG Pocket.

As with all of the strongest EX Cards in the game, your strategy to win battles should be based around setting Charizard up, in this case with Crimson Storm, to KO any opposition cards. To do this, it is best to keep your deck as simple as possible to increase the chances of drawing the Pokémon you want. To do this, only use eight slots for Pokémon with 12 further slots for cards.

Crimson Storm can wipe out any current Pokémon in one go.

Only four Pokémon are used in this deck, with two of each card. Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard EX, and Moltres EX. While most beginners will like to use decks with many Pokémon, for the best decks, less is more. By only including four basic level Pokémon, you will likely get what you need early to start building the optimum setup.

The key card in this deck is Moltres EX, which can be used to build a deck around itself. It has lots of health and a move to speed up Charizard's setup. You should always play this card in the active position, with Charmander behind it, evolving into Charmeleon and then Charizard as quickly as possible.

When active, Moltres has one energy move, Inferno Dance, which allows you to spin three coins and add an energy card to a Pokémon of your choice for every head. This strategy will enable you to quickly build up a Charizard with Crimson Storm.

Using Moltres in the active position removes any danger of the Charmander line being knocked out. Once Charizard is ready, it can be switched in, and any Pokémon can be KO in one go. If you do get stuck, Moltres has some attacking power itself, although this takes three energy cards and should only be used as a backup plan.

Use this Zapdos deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket to get the very best out of the potential of the Electric-typing in the game's current meta.

All six variations of trainer cards play their role in assisting this deck. Professor's research and Poke ball quickly increase the rate at which you can get Moltres out in case your hand only contains Charmanders. X Speed is also crucial to reduce the energy lost if you have to pull Charizard back for a turn, as once Crimson Storm is used, you have to discard two energy cards. Sabrina is a must-have for Pokémon TCG Pocket battles and is great for disrupting the opposition. Potions and Giovanni can also make the difference in tight battles decided by a few HP.

Alternative Cards For A Charizard EX Deck

Other Pokémon That Can Be Added To The Deck

Meowth Pokemon TCG Pocket Wonder Pick Event

While this is a proven deck, it is slow to win and can struggle against fast-paced decks. It also requires you to have two Moltres EX cards and two Charizard EX cards. Thankfully, there are many options if you want to switch it up. One alternative is to swap out two of the Giovanni cards and replace them with additional Pokémon to lessen the chance of just having a Charmander on its own to start, leaving it vulnerable to being knocked out before you can evolve it.

These can be Normal-type cards, like Farfetch'd or Meowth. Farfetch'd has a 40 damage attack, which only costs one energy and can be an excellent holding card at the start of battles, while Meowth's Payday attack draws an additional card to quickly help get Charmander fully evolved. Meowth can be easily found in Pokémon TCG Pocket as part of the Wonder Pick Event Part 1.

Rental Decks can only be used in solo battles against the AI.

The other option is to use other Fire Pokémon, such as Vulpix and Ninetales, with the latter having one of the other most powerful fire attacks in Fire Mane. This deals 90 damage and can be switched if you didn't have time to prepare the Charizard EX card. While getting all the cards to build the best Charizard EX deck is difficult, it is one of the most powerful in the early stages of Pokémon TCG Pocket.
