Since Pokémon TCG Pocket launched, a number of meta decks have emerged. This includes decks based on Mewtwo ex, Pikachu ex, and Starmie ex cards, which have dominated the game so far. However, the new Mythical Island set spices this up. New game-changing abilities give different Pokémon types more play, while other items and cards bring new elements into matches that need to be considered by players. Here are the top 10 best new cards introduced in the Mythical Island expansion that you should use in your decks.

10 Golem

Giving Fighting Pokémon A Chance

Pokemon TCG Pocket Golem card

Fighting-type Pokémon haven't served much purpose so far in Pokémon TCG Pocket, but a couple of new cards in Mythical Island make them viable. Golem's new card is a powerhouse both on offense and on defense. His 160 HP means it will be able to take at least one attack from almost all opposing Pokémon, whilst its own attack, Guard Press, can do 120 damage. It also reduces the opponent's next attack by 30, meaning it can take over battles if Golem comes into the active spot at the right time.

9 Pokémon Flute

The Most Powerful Item Yet

Pokemon TCG Pocket Pokemon Flute card

The biggest game-changing item in the new expansion is Pokémon Flute. It allows you to bring a new basic Pokémon from your opponent's deck onto the bench. While the majority of items are useful in set situations, only a handful are regularly used in the most popular decks. Combining this with Sabrina to then bring a Pokémon into the active spot can pick up a crucial point at any stage of a tight game.

8 Leaf

Another Trainer That Can Cause Problems

Pokemon TCG Pocket Leaf card

Several useful Trainer er cards have been added alongside the powerhouses of Misty and Blaine, and in the right deck, Leaf can make all the difference in battles. If you are playing decks with several Pokémon that require high retreat costs, Leaf can allow a quick change that otherwise would not be possible.

Aside from Leaf, players need to use the X-Speed card, which reduces the retreat cost by one.

Leaf is especially useful if you have an ex card in your active spot but can't afford for it to be potentially KO'd, as many of them have at least a two-retreat cost.

7 Aerodactyl ex

Stopping Evolutions In Their Tracks

As already mentioned, Fighting-type cards haven't been very effective so far in Pokémon TCG Pocket, but Aerodactyl ex is a powerful option that can counter some key decks. His attack on Land Crush causes 80 damage and only costs 2 energy cards, making it a quick attacker. However, its ability, Primeval Law, is where it comes into its own. It stops opponents from evolving their active Pokémon, which could be powerful against certain decks that need time to build.

6 Gyarados ex

Another Dominate Water Type

Pokemon TCG Gyarados EX card

Water-type cards have been one of the most dominant in Pokémon TCG Pocket, especially due to the overpowered Misty er card, which can give players a large amount of water energy right off the bat. While not needing any more powerful cards, Gyarados ex is just that.

Flying In For The Quick Knockouts

Pokemon TCG Pidgeot EX card

Pidgeot decks challenged the meta in the first set of cards and were one of the most underrated. However, its new ex version is even stronger. Like many of the other ex cards, it has a huge HP as well as a powerful attack. It does a base 80 damage, but if your opponent has a full bench, it will deal 140 damage for just three energy cards. It will only work in certain decks, but it is a great finisher if you have cards that can quickly power it up.

Mew was available as a hidden card following the launch of the game. However, it is only its ex version which is set to have an impact in the meta, but what an impact it has. While only having 130 HP, which is low compared to most ex cards, it has a Genome Hacking attack, which can potentially take out anyone in one go.

Even More Water Provided

Pokemon TCG Vaporeon card

Misty has helped Water-type decks dominate already, but Vaporeon has the potential to make them even more of a force. If you evolve an Eevee into it, Vaporeon has the ability "Wash Out."

Wash Out can be performed by Vaporeon as soon as it is on the bench; it does not need to be in the active spot.

Wash Out allows you to move any water energy cards between your Pokémon that are active and on your bench. This can be used to quickly switch all the energy onto your most powerful water- types, such as Articuno ex or Gyrados ex, setting them up for their main attacks.

This would be enough to take out any Pokémon. In addition, its 130 HP prevents it from being able to be KO'd in one go apart from against the very elite opposition Pokémon.

1 Serperior

The Ultimate Energy Provider

Pokemon TCG Serperior card

Most Pokémon you want to include in your decks are attackers with powerful offensive moves. However, cards can be crucial to have any chance of setting up those attackers. Step forward, Serperior. While it is a stage two evolution, once evolved, Serperior can be used in any grass deck to run over opposition teams. Its ability means that any grass energy card attached to a grass Pokémon is worth double.
