A major new feature is coming to there's no incentive to grind out wins against human opponents outside of the occasional Emblem event. However, that is about to change if a new rumor proves true.

The infamous leaker Pyoro claims that ranked matches will be added to Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket later this month. No further details were revealed about how this would be implemented, but it seems like there will finally be an official competitive scene to challenge players. Ranked play is a standard for other mobile and multiplayer games and has been one of the most-requested features for Pokémon TCG Pocket since launch.

How Realistic Is This Leak?

Pyoro's Leaks Tend To Be Accurate, Especially When It Comes To Nintendo

Pyoro is one of the most well-known leakers in the gaming industry, specifically when it comes to Nintendo leaks. Pyoro's original social media s were shut down when they accidentally revealed their source worked for Nintendo of Japan, but it relaunched under a more obscure name several months ago. The leaker is still followed by prominent professionals like The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley. Pyoro is one of the few generally reliable sources for Nintendo leaks and tends not to leak things without some kind of informed knowledge about what's going on.

Mass cancelations are hitting the Pokémon Center online store and fans are blaming scalpers and bots for driving up demand with automatic sales.

It's also worth noting that Ranked Matches have been stated as a long-term goal for Pokémon TCG Pocket since launch. Pokémon TCG Pocket developers noted that there was an interest for more robust competitive play and ranked matches seem like an easy solution until the game is eventually incorporated into an official competitive league similar to the physical Pokémon TCG. One significant question is whether ranked play will replace the emblem events or if there will be substantial rewards for participating in ranked matches as with Pokémon GO.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Sorely Needs Ranked Battles

Ranked Battles Bring New Challenges To Players

The Space-Time Smackdown Emblems from Pokémon TCG Pocket.

The biggest weakness of Pokémon TCG Pocket is that there's not often much to do in the app besides opening packs. The game desperately needs more things to keep players interested in the lulls when there's not a major event or a significant incentive to more than twice a day to open cards. Ranked play will do that and likely more, especially if it comes with rewards or exclusive promo cards. Personally, Pokémon TCG Pocket will be a lot more engaging once the game finally has a reason to build powerful decks.
