like Pikachu ex and Mewtwo ex dominating online tournaments and play. However, Pokémon TCG Pocket is about to shake things up with the release of Mythical Island, its very first expansion.

Mythical Island will contain over 80 new cards, including a handful of new Pokémon ex cards and new alternate art cards. As the name of the set suggests, the Mythical Pokémon Mew will be a focus of the set and appears on the digital booster pack art and other promotional material for the set. From the initial trailer, it appears that there will only be one kind of booster pack, meaning that the cards won't be split up among subsets like Genetic Apex was. The set will also come with several new accessories such as new binders and display boards.

When Mythical Island Set Releases In TCG Pocket

The New Set Comes Out On December 17th

The good news is that players won't have to wait long to start opening Mythical Island packs. The new set will be released on December 17th, 2024. Players should be able to open packs immediately, using either Pack Hourglasses or their free daily packs.

Currently, it's unknown what time Mythical Island will go live, but previous Pokémon TCG Pocket events have gone live at 1 AM ET, so expect a similar timing for the Mythical Island release. Once the set is released, players can switch between Genetic Apex packs and Mythical Island packs from the main screen.

Also confirmed for Mythical Island are several new display boards and binders. So far, a binder display featuring Serperior, Stonjourner, and Beheeyem is confirmed, as is a new display board with a leaf pattern. These should also appear in the in-game shop and will be available for shop tickets. The final confirmed piece of Mythical Island content are new solo event challenges that use new decks. The three confirmed new solo deck challenges are against decks featuring Mew ex and Mewtwo ex, Aerodactyl ex and Marowak ex, and Blue and Pidgeot ex.

What Cards Are Confirmed For Mythical Island

Highlights Include Mew ex, Aerodactyl ex, Marshadow, and Tauros

According to recent leaks, Mythical Island isn't a full set for Pokémon TCG Pocket. Unlike Genetic Apex (which contains 226 cards, not including alternate art cards), Mythical Island should only contain around 80 cards. The set contains several Pokémon new to Pokémon TCG Pocket, along with some favorites from the previous set. The full list of known Mythical Island cards includes the following:

  • Mew ex
  • Aerodactyl ex
  • Morelull
  • Snivy
  • Exeggcute
  • Dhelmise
  • Larvesta
  • Magmar
  • Vaporeon (alternate art confirmed)
  • Dedenne (alternate art confirmed)
  • Marshadow (alternate art confirmed)
  • Tauros
  • Blue
  • Leaf

There are also several Pokémon that appeared in artwork in the trailer for the new set, but did not have a card revealed. Pokémon who appear on promo art for Mythical Island but have not had a card revealed include the following:

  • Liepard
  • Serperior
  • Stonjourner
  • Beheeyem
  • Gyarados
  • Volcarona
  • Mankey
  • Exeggutor
  • Magikarp
  • Rapidash
  • Salandit
  • Salazzle

Assuming that Mythical Island contains pre-evolved or evolved forms of Pokémon featured in either cards or artwork related to the sets, we can also speculate the following Pokémon will also appear:

  • Old Amber (Aerodactyl)
  • Servine (Snivy, Serperior)
  • Shiinotic (Morelull)
  • Eevee (Vaporeon)
  • Elgyem (Beheeyem)
  • Purrloin (Liepard)
  • Ponyta (Rapidash)
  • Primeape (Mankey)

Assuming that Mythical Island includes all the Pokémon listed above, 34 cards, or about 40% of the Mythical Island set, are ed for. That leaves plenty of room for surprises between now and next week. It's additionally not known how many alternate art cards, full art cards, immersive art cards, and gold full art cards will appear in Mythical Island. Mew ex is a likely candidate for new full art and gold full art cards, although Mew has already gotten an immersive art card via a secret mission.

Pokémon TCG Pocket: Best Fire-Type Deck (& How To Build It)

This Fire-type deck in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will keep you competitive in battles, creating huge damage with strong ex cards.

Two of the most intriguing cards revealed so far are Tauros and Marshadow. The new Tauros card deals 40 damage normally, but deals an extra 80 damage to Pokémon ex cards. This means that Tauros can one-shot Pokémon like Pikachu ex and Starmie ex. Marshadow is also a Pikachu ex one-shotter, with a Revenge attack that deals 100 damage if a player's Pokémon was knocked out the previous round. As Marshadow is a Fighting-type Pokémon, it deals 20 extra damage to Pikachu ex, meaning it's the perfect counter for the powerhouse Pokémon.

How To Prepare For The New Pokémon TCGP Set

Finish Events And Don't Spend Hourglasses For The Next Five Days

Wonder Hourglasses and a Rewind Watch in Pokemon TCG pocket

For players looking to prep for the new Mythical Island set, the easiest way is to simply hoard pack hourglasses. Players can obtain 4 Pack Hourglasses per day by completing 3 missions per day. They can also earn up to 24 Pack Hourglasses by competing in the new Genetic Apex SP Emblem event that runs through December 16. Other potential sources of Pack Hourglasses are through leveling up, finishing individual solo deck missions, or by purchasing pack hourglasses using shop tickets. Players can also choose to spend money to buy more pack hourglasses.

Hopefully, players will already have a decent number of Pack Hourglasses leading into the new set. If they don't, they should also that they can focus their free packs per day on Mythical Island. Given that there's only around 80 cards (before alternate art cards), it shouldn't take hundreds of packs to get most of the cards in the pack. Also, keep in mind that Mythical Island is a mini-set and that in six or so weeks, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will be preparing to launch a new, larger set of cards into the game.
