The Pokémon Trading Card Game has officially announced the release of Prismatic Evolutions, a new special set focused on Eevee and its various evolved forms. Not only is Prismatic Evolutions the first announced Pokémon TCG set for 2025, it's also likely the last set to be released before the TCG reintroduces Trainer's Pokémon cards to the game. Prismatic Evolutions is a brand-new "special set," which means it will be released only in various boxed products and not individual booster packs. Previous special sets released internationally include Twilight Masquerade and the popular151 set.
Prismatic Evolutions will contain cards from from Terastal Festival ex, a new "high end" set released in Japan. These "high end" sets feature larger booster pack sizes and guaranteed rare cards, along with the occasional "god pack" made up exclusively of new cards. It's speculated Prismatic Evolutions will include translated cards from a series of pre-made starter decks released in Japan. The new set will contain over 175 cards, not including illustration rare, special illustration rare, and gold cards. Additionally, it will feature two reverse holofoil patterns - one featuring a Poké Ball and one featuring a Master Ball.

More Prismatic Evolutions Collections Will Roll Out Over The Spring
As a special set, Prismatic Evolutions products will have a staggered release, although the first product will be released on January 17, 2025. The initial wave of releases will include the Elite Trainer's Box, which comes with an exclusive alternate art Eevee card and several booster packs. The Pokémon Company will release several other sets over the course of the year, including a Super Collection in May and a Figure Collection in September.

Pokémon TCG: Surging Sparks Review - Gorgeous Art & Strong Cards Cap Off A Big Year
The Pokémon Trading Card Game caps off a strong 2024 with the release of Surging Sparks, and Pikachu is set to make a big splash in gameplay.
Prismatic Evolutions will also appear in at least one digital Pokémon card game. Pokémon TCG Live players will be able to play with cards from the set starting on January 16, 2025. Like other sets, players can unlock cards from the set using the Battle . Pokémon TCG Pocket has not announced plans to incorporate cards from the set into the new mobile app. Because the game uses different sets than the main Pokémon TCG, it's unlikely that cards from Prismatic Evolutions will appear in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
Confirmed Cards For Prismatic Evolutions
Eevee ex And Its Evolutions Are All Confirmed For Prismatic Evolutions
The full set list for Prismatic Evolutions is currently unknown, but The Pokémon Company has confirmed that the set will include the following:
- Six ACE SPEC Trainer cards
- 10 Pokémon ex cards and 15 Tera Pokémon ex cards
- 12 ultra rare er cards
- 32 special illustration rare Pokémon ex and er cards
- Five hyper rare gold etched Pokémon ex cards
The only confirmed cards for the set is that Eevee and its various evolutions will all appear as Stellar Tera Pokémon ex cards. These Pokémon cards all feature attacks that require three different kinds of energy types to use, but usually come with especially powerful effects. One unique card confirmed for Prismatic Evolutions is the Stellar Tera Eevee ex card. Eevee ex has an ability that allows players to evolve it into another Pokémon ex card. This marks the first time that a Pokémon ex card can evolve into another Pokémon ex card in the Pokémon TCG.
Another intriguing card that will appear in Prismatic Evolutions is Umbreon ex. The card comes with an attack called Onyx that earns players a Prize Card but at the cost of all energy attached to Umbreon ex. Picking up a prize card for a three energy discard is an intriguing move, especially as players can automatically seal a victory without needing to knock out an opponent Pokémon. This card works well with the MAX Rod ACE Spec card that will also appear in the set that pulls five Pokémon and/or Energy cards from the discard pile and into the player's hand.

Prismatic Evolutions will likely be a hot Pokémon Trading Card Game set, thanks to the focus on Eevee and its evolutions. The previous Eevee-focused set, Evolving Skies, turned out to be the most sought-after set in the Sword and Shield era of the card game. The infamous "Moonbreon" alternate art card from Evolving Skies still sells for over $1,000. If there's a similarly popular card in Prismatic Evolutions, expect both collectors and speculators to snatch up any product they can find.
