Peacock renewed Poker Face within a month of season 1's conclusion in 2023, but there is still a lot of mystery surrounding Poker Face season 2. Created by Rian Johnson, Poker Face offered Natasha Lyonne the opportunity to play with a twist on the usual case-of-the-week detective show format, as her character, Charlie, has a preternatural ability to tell if someone is lying. The specifics of what's next for walking lie-detector Charlie when Poker Face returns, however, remains to be seen.

Rian Johnson and star Natasha Lyonne both have ideas about where Poker Face will head in season 2, although they seem to be a closely guarded secret. With the season 1 finale setting up a second season just as full of twists and turns as the first, there is plenty of speculation about what happens next — and this has no doubt helped fuel the anticipation for Charlie Cale's return. While a season 2 premiere date is still an unspecified way off, there's still enough known about the new season of Poker Face for viewers to digest in the meantime.

Poker Face Season 2 Story Details

What Will Happen When Charlie Returns?

Luca (Simon Helberg) and Charlie (Natasha Lyonne) sit next to one another in a church pew in Poker Face

The Poker Face season 2 story is sure to focus on Beatrix Hasp (Rhea Perlman) and her pursuit of Charlie. Having escaped Cliff LeGrand (Benjamin Bratt), who is headed to jail after murdering Sterling Frost Sr. (Ron Perlman), Charlie effectively has a clean slate. However, Hasp's call gives Charlie the choice of working for her or dying. With Charlie smashing her phone and setting off in her 1969 Plymouth Barracuda, Poker Face season 2 should pick up from there.

Where Charlie runs to next is unclear, though her connection with Luka Clark in season 1 seems like it should come in handy while on the run once again, and the introduction of her sister Emily opens up another avenue for further exploration. Episodes are sure to keep following the Murder She Wrote and Columbo pattern that made Poker Face such a success, leaving plenty of options available for the show’s writing staff, led by Johnson.
