Lil Rey Howery previews the Rian Johnson series Poker Face. Ever since it was initially reported that Natasha Lyonne was collaborating with Rian Johnson on a new mystery show, the announcement was followed by Poker Face. Lyonne is just finishing off her Emmy-nominated performance as the lead character in Netflix's Russian Doll, which returned for season 2 earlier this year. Johnson has already revitalized the mystery genre by writing and directing the 2019 whodunnit hit Knives Out and that movie's sequel, Glass Onion, has earned praise in special screenings on its way to a Netflix release December 23.

Now, one of Poker Face's stars opened up about the show In an interview with ScreenRant. Howery discussed what to expect from Poker Face. As one of the many guest stars on the Peacock series, which debuts January 26 and consists of 10 episodes, the Free Guy actor mentioned how the anthology prioritized guests in a way that harkened back to classic mystery series like Murder, She Wrote, Perry Mason, and Matlock. Howery's quote is included below:

It's great, this show has an old school feel to it. Like some of the shows I used to like in the '80s, like these mystery type of shows with guest stars. I would watch a show like Murder She Wrote, and The Heat of the Night, all these different shows, Perry Mason, Matlock. Those guest stars were just as important as anybody who was a regular cast member, so you look forward to that. That's what this represents, every episode is its own movie. I can't wait, I'm excited. I did ADR for it recently, I'm like, "Damn, this looks good." Rian has the eye for this, it's gonna be crazy.

How Poker Face Can Avoid Knives Out Comparisons

Daniel Craig In Chair Knives Out

The most significant notable distinction between the two Johnson projects is the choice of the lead character. Although it looks to be the case that Lyonne's protagonist is as capable as Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc of Knives Out, she'll have a different way of interacting with the potential suspects that she comes across in each installment. And, as Howery reveals, there might be more of a focus on each individual suspect than in the Knives Out films in which the big stars have to share the limited time on-screen.

Everything We Know About Poker Face

POKER FACE -- Dead Man's Hand Episode 101 -- Pictured Natasha Lyonne as Charlie Cale 2

When it debuts in a matter of weeks, Poker Face will follow Charlie Cale (Lyonne, also an executive producer on the project), a private investigator that has the uncanny ability to know when someone is lying, regardless of their alibi. Cale travels all over America in a yellow Plymouth Barracuda, discovering some bizarre crimes to solve along the way. The series, which is written by Johnson, who also doubled as director for several of its episodes, will premiere on Peacock with four episodes. After that, new episodes will arrive every Thursday.

As revealed by the Poker Face trailer, the show boasts an expansive and impressive ing cast. In addition to Howery, the anthology will feature Adrien Brody, Chloë Sevigny, Dascha Polanco, Ron Pearlman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tim Meadows, Benjamin Bratt, Charles Melton, Cherry Jones, Clea DuVall, Ellen Barkin, Hong Chau, Jameela Jamil, Judith Light, and Stephanie Hsu, among many others. From this latest reveal, it sounds like those guests will be a key part of distinguishing the story.
