Poppy Playtime Ch. 3 has a new trailer, and one of the next monsters that players will face in their continued journey through Playtime Co.'s abandoned factory is revealed. Mob Entertainment has a habit of giving important information to players through the trailers and promotional material it releases for each chapter. This time is no different, and players can sew together hints to make reasonable guesses regarding what secrets are lurking in Playtime Co.

Poppy Playing Ch. 3 will pick up after the events of Chapter 2, meaning that players are exploring the depths of Playtime Co.'s factory after the train they were supposed to escape on was rerouted by Poppy. The new trailer reinforces that Chapter 3 will take place in the Playcare, and the name "Deep Sleep" along with some of the imagery seems to line up with fan theories about the Playcare. The trailer feels like it gives a lot of information, and at the same time, not enough.

Possible Toys That Inspired The New Monster For Poppy Playtime 3

Former guesses for who will step up at the monster in Poppy Playtime 3 have been disproved with the new trailer, which shows vague images of a creature that doesn't match up with any toys players have seen in-game so far. If the main monster in "Deep Sleep" is based on a real toy like Mommy Long Legs, then WereBears from the UK in the 1980s could be a possibility given the clawed hand, the presence of fur, and the shape of the nose. Another possibility could be a bunny Popples Stuffed Animal.

The curvature of the mouth and the eye shape have bunny-like qualities. However, Popples were specifically marketed in the 1980s as stuffed animals that keep nightmares away. Given the emphasis on sleep and the repeated use of the word "nightmare" in the new trailer, these fuzzy companions seem like another strong contender.

The New Poppy Playtime Monster Has A Grudge Against Huggy Wuggy

The Poppy Playtime trailer shows Huggy Wuggy a couple of times, but never intact. Instead, the small version of Huggy Wuggy is seen with its head brutally ripped off and impaled on a spike. Although the large version of Huggy Wuggy might not be safe either, as there's an image that shows pieces of toys connected, and it seems that Huggy Wuggy's head is seen there. It could be the small version's head that's been impaled, but seen from a distance, so players see the whole construct. But it could also be the Prototype that's known to collect pieces of toys.

The Prototype is Experiment 1006 in Poppy Playtime, and it acted as an antagonist to the researchers of Playtime Co. when the company was active. One theory is that the Prototype is working to save the children, and since the word "savior" comes up in the new trailer, it's possible that the new monster is working with the Prototype. If that's the case, then it could mean there are factions among the toys, and that those factions are hostile toward each other given the amount of blood and dismembered toys heaped together in the trailer.

The New Monster's Purpose In Poppy Playtime 3

The purpose of this new monster lines up with the real meaning of the poppy flower in Poppy Playtime. The trailer shows the monster blowing red smoke from its mouth, and some of the children's drawings have clouds of red smoke drawn around the kids and creatures. Since the chapter's name is "Deep Sleep," it's likely that the red smoke is gas made from poppies with the purpose of putting kids to sleep. It looks like Poppy Playtime - an already dark game - is going to be taking an even darker turn with the new chapter.

From previous chapters of Poppy Playtime, players know that poppy flowers are an important component for reviving a person in the body of a toy. However, it seems like a large amount is needed since the notes detailing one of the experiments on a rat involved submerging it in a poppy gelatin-like mixture for an extended period of time. It's possible that the poppy gas being released in the Playcare serves a similar purpose by exposing kids to poppies for an extended period of time, but it also keeps them asleep so they can't avoid exposure.

The Player's Goal In Poppy Playtime Ch. 3's Playcare

It seems unlikely that any of the kids who were in the Playcare would still be alive in Poppy Playtime, but they could be trapped in toys since they were likely used as mass test subjects to perfect the process of transferring a human consciousness into a toy. At the end of the second chapter, when the player is on the train, Poppy has a monologue about terrible things having happened in the Playcare. However, the uncut version of her speech talks about how she exists because of what took place in the Playcare, and she needs the player to help her set things right.

The goal is likely going to be freeing the toys so the trapped kids have some amount of freedom, or destroying the toys to free the children from essentially being imprisoned. While the latest Poppy Playtime chapter is shaping up to be one of the darkest yet, it could end on a positive note in a bittersweet way. Players are far too late to stop the tragedies that have happened at Playtime Co., but they might be able to mitigate some of the aftermath by freeing people who were used as test subjects, then left abandoned and forgotten in the toy factory when the company shut down or moved to other locations.

The new trailer for Poppy Playtime gives players a lot of content to speculate about, but they'll have to wait until Winter 2023 to get confirmed answers for their theories. However, the imagery of the new trailer is very dark, so players should be prepared to face content that could be disturbing, even if that's simply through learning about the atrocities that Playtime Co. committed in the past. Whether the new monster is a WereBear, a Popples, or something entirely different, players are going to be facing a living nightmare in Poppy Playtime Ch. 3.
