Director Akiva Schaffer said he would "never say never" to the possibility of cult mockumentary comedy The Lonely Island. Samberg stars as Connor4Real, an egocentric pop-rap artist who is trying to establish his solo career after splitting from his group, The Style Boyz. Though the film was a box office flop when it was released in 2016, it has since earned a cult following.

Now, Schaffer has stated he's open to the possibility of a sequel. In an interview with Variety, the writer, director, and star said that while there are no plans at the moment, there's also "no reason not to" make a sequel: "I would say, never say never. There's no reason not to, but I can't lie and say we've been cooking something up. But there's no reason it couldn't exist."

Popstar's hilarious combination of original songs, surprise cameos, and absurd humor is undoubtedly a winning formula, something The Lonely Island could easily build on if they did make a sequel. The comedy group could make the silly subtitle of Popstar a reality and never stop satirizing the music industry – and give fans a glimpse at a Style Boyz reunion tour. Whether Schaffer and the other of The Lonely Island decide to make a sequel or not, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping will always be a cult favorite.
