Summary

  • Time Force's Jen Scott is the best Pink Ranger, leading her team and having a complex storyline.
  • Power Rangers Time Force offers more character development and higher stakes compared to Mighty Morphin.
  • Jen Scott's story stands out from other Pink Rangers, making her one of the most important characters in the franchise.

Kimberly is one of the most iconic Power Rangers chronology can be split into a few different eras. The 1990s saw the Zordon Era, which refers to every season between Mighty Morphin and In Space. After Zordon sacrificed himself to save the universe, Power Rangers started to release standalone stories that could be watched without any previous knowledge of the franchise.

Amy Jo Johnson’s Kimberly Hart was the first Pink Ranger in the franchise. She remained on the show until midway through Mighty Morphins season 3, after which Kimberly was replaced by Kat. The original Pink Ranger would still return in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, although she did not have Ranger powers. The Turbo movie marked Amy Jo Johnson’s final Power Rangers appearance, with Kimberly only showing as cameos with her helmet on in other seasons. Kimberly will always be one of my original heroes, but it’s Jen from Time Force who elevated the meaning of “Pink Ranger.”

Time Force’s Jen Scotts Is Power Rangers’ Best Pink Ranger

Power Rangers Time Force Was Released In 2001

Time Force’s Jen Scotts, played by Erin Cahill, is one of the best Power Rangers characters of all time and arguably the saga’s greatest Pink Ranger. Jen was the first female Ranger to lead her team in a full season – the Alien Rangers were led by Delphina but only appeared in a few episodes – and the first Pink Ranger to do so. Jen took on the role of Time Force team leader after their Red Ranger, Alex, died in battle. The fact that Alex had proposed to Jen just before this battle made the Red Ranger’s death even more tragic.

Time Force is a very mature Power Rangers season and one of my favorite entries in the franchise. There is a level of character development in Time Force that I had yet to see in Power Rangers, resulting in a show where every Ranger feels like they have a voice of their own. All characters are complex and well-developed, but Jen’s story is a standout. From her responsibility to lead her team into a dangerous mission in the past to her complicated relationship with Red Ranger Wes, Jen was at the center of Time Force’s best episodes.

How Time Force’s Pink Ranger Compares To Kimberly

Time Force Was A Much Better Show Than Mighty Morphin

Kimberly without her helmet and as Pink Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

It is difficult to compare any Rangers to the original ones considering just how iconic Jason, Trini, Billy, Zack, Kimberly, and Tommy were. That said, without considering nostalgia, Time Force’s Jen was a more interesting character than Kimberly. Mighty Morphin was a very simple and formulaic show where everything was solved in 20 minutes, meaning that the Rangers rarely got to grow as characters. Time Force was as much a kid’s show as Mighty Morphin, but the former had higher stakes and a much better main villain.

There are many great things about Time Force, but Jen’s story was arguably the best of them.

As a result, Jen Scott was a more layered character than her predecessors. Additionally, the Time Force Pink Ranger got to do something the original one never did – lead the Power Rangers. Having the Pink Ranger feel responsible for the escape of the mutant who killed her fiancé was a great creative decision that made Jen a very interesting character from the start. The fact that Wes, the new Red Ranger, somehow looked exactly like her fiancé made it all even more fascinating. There are many great things about Time Force, but Jen’s story was arguably the best of them.

Kimberly & Jen Fought Have Fought Together In Power Rangers (Sort Of)

The Characters Never Actually Interacted On The Show

Kimbery and all the other Pink Rangers in Power Rangers

Sadly, Kimberly and Jen never shared the screen in Power Rangers, at least not without their helmets. Both characters were around for the Legendary Battle, which does not really count as a team-up since virtually every Power Ranger appeared as a background character with their helmet on in this crossover. Mighty Morphin #22 by Mat Groom & Moises Hidalgo also included a team-up between them, this time with Jen appearing alongside all other Pink Rangers to help Kimberly through the Morphin Grid. As cool as those moments were, I would have loved to see Jen and Kimberly interact on the show.

The Power Rangers comics take place in a different continuity from the show, especially after Shattered Grid.

After the end of Time Force, Jen Scott returned for the “Reinforcements from the Future” crossover but never again. Over 20 years later, Jen remains the only Pink Ranger to lead her team for an entire season. Cosmic Fury’s Amelia sort of led the Dino Fury Power Rangers for a brief moment. However, Amelia only became the actual leader of the team when she had already changed colors to become the new Red Ranger. Despite appearing in only one season, Pink Ranger Jen is among the most important Power Rangers characters in the show’s history.
