Jason and Kimberly are two of the most iconic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers remains relevant over 30 years after the original show premiered.

Kimberly and Tommy were the main couple of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, with their relationship starting shortly after the events of “Green With Evil.” However, with Amy Jo Johnson no longer on the show, Power Rangers Zeo had Kimberly break up with Tommy through a letter. Austin St. John’s Jason, on the other hand, returned to the show during Zeo. Both characters would reunite for the first time since MMPR in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, during which they were traveling together and were kidnapped by Divatox.

Were Jason And Kimberly Dating In Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie?

Jason And Kimberly Were On Vacation Together

It has been widely speculated that Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie cut a romance subplot involving Kimberly and Jason. While there is no confirmation of actual deleted scenes that would’ve confirmed Jason and Kimberly as a couple, they were traveling together when they were kidnapped by Divatox. Of course, Jason and Kimberly had been friends and teammates since high school, meaning that the fact they were traveling together does not necessarily suggest that they were in a relationship. That said, little is known about what happened to those two characters between Zeo and Turbo.

Rumors of Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie having a deleted scene with Jason and Kimberly as a couple most likely started due to their hug shown during the credits, which some have incorrectly described as a deleted kiss scene.

At the beginning of Power Rangers Zeo, Tommy receives a “Dear John” letter from Kim in which she tells him she found someone else and wants to break up – the original Pink Ranger had been away from Angel Grove since MMPR season 3. BOOM! Studios’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink comics recently retconned Kimberly’s letter, revealing that she wanted Tommy to move on and lied about having found someone else. However, that comic book is not necessarily canon to the TV show. Additionally, at the end of Zeo, Jason was seen holding hands with Emily, who was presumably his girlfriend.

Power Rangers Never Made Jason And Kimberly’s Potential Relationship In Turbo Canon

Kimberly And Jason Never Became A Couple In Power Rangers

Whether there were actual plans for Jason and Kim to be a couple in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie is difficult to say, as no deleted scenes that this claim can be found. Regardless, Power Rangers never made any other attempts to establish a romantic relationship between the original Red and Pink Rangers. In “Forever Red,” which was set five years after the events of Turbo, Jason and Tommy reunited alongside other Red Rangers. At the end of the episode, Jason joked about how Tommy was usually busy making out with Kim at the juice bar.

Tommy and Kat, the second Pink Ranger, got married after Dino Thunder and had a son, J.J. Oliver.

It must be noted that Tommy and Kimberly never got together again in the main continuity, with Tommy eventually marrying Kat. The Power Rangers comics, most of which are set in the Mighty Morphin era, also did not try to make Jason and Kimberly a thing. The comics did play around with a lot of different pairings that were not on the show, including but not limited to Jason and Trini. The Red and Yellow Rangers briefly dated in BOOM! Studios' Go Go Power Rangers, which was mostly set before the second half of MMPR season 1.

Power Rangers (2017) Cut A Romance Subplot Involving Jason And Kimberly

Jason And Kimberly Almost Became A Thing In The 2017 Reboot

Interestingly, Power Rangers (2017) was supposed to make Kimberly and Jason a couple. The reboot reimagined the characters and the world of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, recasting the original “teenagers with attitude” and telling a more mature story. In a deleted scene, Jason and Kimberly kiss, which would have made for a major deviation from the TV show. However, since the scene never made it to the film, it can be said that Kimberly and Jason were never a thing in any Power Rangers continuity.

Modern Power Rangers stories have reimagined the relationships between the original Rangers. This includes, for example, Trini and Zack being a couple in recent comics. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return, a comic book co-written by Amy Jo Johnson, imagined an alternate universe in which Zeo never happened – in this continuity, Kimberly and Tommy remained a couple past MMPR season 3 and had a daughter. Although a relationship between Jason and Kim could’ve worked with the right story, it’s arguably a good thing that it never happened.
