Commando, survive a deadly game in The Running Man, and more.
Depending on who one asks, Dutch is one of, if not the greatest, characters Schwarzenegger ever brought to life. Dutch is a no-nonsense leader of a mercenary unit, and while he's for hire at the right price, his team only works rescue missions, getting in, retrieving hostages or captives, and getting out, killing only those that stand in their way. This ethical boundary is made clear by Dutch's incensed reaction to the revelation that his old buddy Dillon had lied to him, and used the team to eliminate an enemy force in the jungles of Guatemala.
Once his team is confronted by the Predator, Dutch does his best to protect his compatriots, although sadly, he doesn't succeed. Still, Dutch ends up using his wits and tactical knowledge to ultimately defeat the intergalactic hunter, despite being severely outmatched in a physical confrontation. He survives Predator, but has never reappeared onscreen in the franchise. However, expanded universe materials reveal more to his story.
What Happened to Arnold Schwarzenegger's Dutch After Predator
Dutch's life post-Predator is expanded on in the official novelization of Predator 2, written by author Simon Hawke. According to the book, Dutch was - quite understandably - in shock for awhile after the events of the original Predator. After all, not only did he now know aliens were real, but he had also lost all his closest friends, and barely survived an encounter with said alien. Dutch spent some time in the hospital, and was sadly suffering from something akin to radiation poisoning as a result of being too close to the Predator's self-destruct device.
While a patient, Dutch was interviewed by government agent Peter Keyes (played by Gary Busey in Predator 2), who then insisted Dutch undergo lie detector tests due to the whole "my team was killed by a murderous alien" thing. While Keyes was eventually convinced Dutch was being truthful, the major eventually decided to get the hell out of dodge, ripping out his IVs and escaping from the hospital, despite the best efforts of security personnel. Predator's Dutch would never be seen again, but while doctors figured he wouldn't survive long without further treatment, Keyes believed the resourceful mercenary would find a way to carry on.
