A24's Priscilla: Release Date, Cast, Story Details, Trailer & Everything We Know
Sofia Coppola directs the Priscilla Presley biopic Priscilla. Here's everything you need to know about the cast, story details, and trailer
Now, A24 releases the Priscilla trailer, revealing a bit of Elvis’ dark side for the first time.
The trailer reveals Elordi’s voice as Elvis, with a distinctive Southern drawl that is not a complete imitation. Over the course of the Priscilla trailer, Elvis and Priscilla’s romance turns from an electric love affair to a more controlling relationship, for as Priscilla utters, “he's not like you imagine.”
Why Priscilla Is A Great Answer To 2022's Elvis
Priscilla’s release comes just one year after the release of Baz Luhrmann’s Oscar-nominated Elvis. That film did feature Priscilla Presley, played by Olivia DeJonge, but mostly stayed in the perspective of both Elvis himself and his deceptive manager, Colonel Tom Parker. In contrast, Priscilla shows Elvis’ rise to fame through the perspective of the woman who witnessed it and was victim to its harsh fallout.
Directed by Coppola, one of the most prominent female directors in Hollywood, Priscilla is destined to be a more woman-centric and likely more balanced story. From the trailer alone, it is clear that Priscilla will treat Elvis’ charm and fame as alluring yet dangerous to the people around him, especially his ex-wife. The movie will not shy away from the “rumors about” Elvis, nor the dark side to his character.
Because of its proximity to Elvis, Priscilla will have a huge point of comparison upon its release. One of the most prominent will be between Elordi and Austin Butler, the latter of which did a more direct imitation of Elvis that earned him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for Best Actor. Elordi may not have the same pull as Butler, but Priscilla so far seems up to the challenge, since Spaeny won Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival and gotten the seal of approval from the real-life Priscilla Presley. Priscilla is a completely distinct film from Elvis, but the newest trailer gives hope that the film will be an answer to its perspective.
