I liked the prequels and can't fault them for trying to innovate. However, it feels like they tried to introduce too many ideas, cover too many fronts, and resolve a thing or two too quickly (i.e. the supposed Engineer homeworld). And by the end of Covenant, there's no remotely satisfying connection to the fossilized Engineer and the Derelict of the first movie.

Why The Technology In Prometheus Looks So Advanced (When It’s Set Before Alien)
Great points, for the most part. Prometheus deals with the voyage of a cutting-edge science vessel, secretly carrying the big boss himself, to boot. Whereas in the other cases the story deals with the equivalent of old trucks and dusty gas stations in the middle of nowhere.
