See All24 Years After Voyager's Finale, It Feels Like Star Trek Has Given Up On New Generations
Not a fan of the spandex utopianism of TNG, and Vger, and to a lesser extent DS9.
Following America's misadventures in Iraq and Afghanistan and the mirror that Battlestar Galactica held up...a bar that has become a standard...it will take another generation or so and a major change in society before that sort of (frankly naieve and annoying) optimism will make much money on TV again.
I resisted Discovery for a long time before my wife convinced me to watch. Quite frankly as a Trek fan from about the same time TMP came out, though I'll always be a fan of the gritty Royal Navy like 'maroons era' in Star Trek, Discovery has a phenomenal cast, story, and visuals. Though its 'spin off' SNW is my favorite, I can't deny that Discovery is probably the best all around Trek ever.
At the end of the day here's my opinion, and I may be a lone voice in the wilderness, but like something like NASCAR, people say they watch Trek for the wide eyed wonder and idealism...but what they really want is to see Starships locked in winner take all battles to the death between a heroic good crew and a charismatic villain.
If I'm wrong, please explain why Wrath of Khan is almost universally voted the favorite Star Trek movie 44 years after it's release?
Original, Unedited Star Wars Without Lucas Changes Streaming On Roku: What Is Going On?
Yeah the younger generation are *consumers* the older generation are *fans.* Much as I hate it, its just a fact of life in a capitalist society: Money wins out every time. Sell out and cash in.
You May Not Realize, But Inuyasha's Creator Is the Greatest Manga Artist in Modern Times
Truly an icon. As an older Otaku often uncomfortable with the the current generation brands itself with, Takahashi sensei's soft touch in tackling concepts which can be a bit sensitive for all involved has made her works a touchstone that's accessible to all generations. Her art style is as iconic as Miyazaki sensei, and she deserve all the recognition she gets, and more. Truly a samurai-ko of her medium and a worthy leader in the genere.
Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Multiverse Story Ending Creates A Massive Canon Problem
When I was a kid I bought wholeheartedly into a fixed Star Trek canon built for a pen and paper RPG. Then shortly after TNG began the company stopped making the game and the 'canon' I so loved was nothing but fanfic. This left me profoundly traumatized 😢 and I eventually emotionally invested myself in a universe with a (ably) iron clad canon: Star Wars. Then 22 years later, SW did the same and worse yet lost the 'feel' that made it special. In that time Star Trek not only established, but embraced the IDIC concept of canon. Put simply, in of quantum physics: With one wave of a plot MacGuffin ANYTHING can and does exist in Star Trek!
