Doctor Who: Matt Smith's Cameo 14 Years After Original Episode Explained
It's not surprising they are trying just ANYTHING at this point, with the show hemorrhaging viewers. I think they need to do what happened in the past and just take years off to eventually "reboot." It's obvious the show is suffering and stepping away could be the best thing for it.
They likely won't as the show is still a big money maker

A big reason why he was so memorable is because of Simmons. He NAILED the voice work (shocker, I know!!). Then, the way he "went out" was so surprising to me, and it was absolutely memorable.
