The difference between David Lynch's Dune and the ones now is the amount of money thrown at them. Villeneuve's versions were a success just by being announced and all the marketing campaign behind them. David's version is a masterpiece that only the decisions of the producer diminished its greatness. The recent Dune part I is mediocre at best, good special effects and nothing else, no "ambience", no atmosphere, no characters development, nothing of note...
