If you look at most of the old fairy tales that every child grew up listening to and reading 90% of them have a terrible and dark original past. Even the song a ring a ring a possie was about the black plague. But as children they don't see their favourite bedtime stories that way. They will still be told to them for generations even if a few details might change. But the way that it was put across in this version is just evolution, which is eventable.
