Wrath of Khan should be 2281-2282. Kirk and crew meet Khan in the first season, 66-67. I'm the movie Kirk says "There's a man out there I haven't seen in 15 years ..." Putting the show and the movie closely tied to the actual release dates.

Saying that, I disagree that we needed exact dates. It's was enough to know it what a mile stone birthday for Kirk and it was 15 years later, putting him at 50.

I think Final Frontier is one of the best of you are a Trek fan. The story is great! The special effects need some help, but that never was an issue with the TV series. It's the movie most like the original show and need to be received and given a directors edition.

Growing up, it was white. Titanium white to be exact. The colors were modeled after the US space program. That's also why there is Insignia Red and Chromite Yellow.
