The new Matlock with KathyBates might scratch the itch a little too. Also, going further back in time Columbo was great and I've re-watched some episodes of Remington Steele - the show that launched Pierce Brosnan's career - and it has a similar blend of action, comedy and odd couple dynamics.

I think if Monk is based on a classic detective it's Hercule Poirot, not Sherlock Holmes. Poirot was also an obsessive like Monk. Sherlock Holmes wasn't an obsessive. Sean Spencer from Psych, with his Watson- like pharmaceutical rep sidekick Guster, and talent for observation and inference was more closely based on Sherlock Holmes.
