I actually just watched, What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Deep Space Nine, and Ira Steven Behr would have preferred that Garak had been a gay Cardasian. The show is from 2018 so it's not like it's just something very recent.

What was actually the best about the show was the former writers all sat around and developed an opening episode for a 26 episode season. At least that was their joke. In the end Cisco shows up as a projection on various bridges after Capt Nog dies. It would be a great movie idea.
