The first one was brilliant, based a lot on Taxi Driver and King of Comedy -- this was a "musical" that wasn't really. The courtroom drama could have been abbreviated to clips, skip all the build up, have "Lee" meet Joker after his Joker clones rescue him from jail, then have that be the focus --no prison garbage -- make it a criminal setting, to set up the future REAL Joker who takes his place to become the criminal of the comics and films

I think a lot of the dangling threads left plot ideas open for the sequel: Lydia's mother, who could be dead or alive; Rory, now dead from the Saturn sandworm and Dolores; whoever buys the former Maitland/Deetz home; maybe if Lydia throws away her red wedding gown in the trash and someone finds it and wears it, Beetlejuice could then this person; Richard the ghost might appear again; Winona Ryder has said she would like her character and Beetlejuice to get together at some time, though neither the first nor second film makes her character appear open to it -- though she really OWES Beetlejuice for helping her save the Maitlands, then rescuing her daughter!
