D&D is doing well because people don't have to sit down and read a manual to play it. Yes there is a learning curve still, but the vast majority of people would disagree with you that reading and memorizing a dense ruleset is better than empowering players to have fun. The way my current campaign is going, if we run into a new feature we discuss it in the context of it's rules, and what those mean. In turn we all learn more about the game, and get a hand in it, rather than being bound to a fixed definition for everything. It let's us use our imagination and it does enhance the experience

The problem was never that Cavil was recast, the problem is that he was the only one who would fight to keep the source material as the blueprint. Hemsworth will probably do a decent job, but not with the story we wanted.
