10 Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes That Haven't Aged Well
So it "breaks" the author's heart Buffy was sl-shamed in Beer Bad but it's cool that there was a demon on the internet influencing a kid to do evil? That tells me all I need to know right there about the writer's messed up mentality/morals.
We all know now that Joss Whedon has skeletons in his closet, but I think, as most have said in these comments boards, depicting these topics and trying to show them as bad were exactly the points the author completely missed about these episodes.
As Buffy fans, none of us condone these behaviors, but at the same time we're not some children that will shy away from discussing these hard topics. Yet, we're also probably not as daft as the fabled "modern audience" to be nitpick just to get offended at every single thing. It is what it is and, for the most part, the writers did an amazing job on the show. It's not perfect, but it did well at addressing most topics they tried to address.
Cynthia Erivo's Recent Comments About Storm Have Me Convinced The MCU Needs To Make An Important Change From The X-Men Movies When They Adapt The Marvel Mutant
Pt. 2:
One thing about Storm is, yes, while she's a bit grand and uber powerful, she never flaunts her powers excessively for the sake of buying her own hype from other mutants, nor does she overuse her powers just because she can. At her core Storm is not about her powers being god-like at all; she is about the exercising of control, self-restraint and actual humility for the sake of her team and the greater good that makes her who she is.
As a character/person, Storm is a success story because of not just what she came out of but because of how she reformed from a petty thief to become the second in command to one of the greatest, selfless teams of do-gooding mutants in the X-Men's world. Her inner turmoil and power control issues have been resolved by years of practice, patience and taking on the teachings and philosophy of Professor Xavier. It didn't happen overnight and she didn't do it all on her own. These characteristics are what make Storm who she is, and why she is such a great leader and character — it is NOT just her attitude and mutant powers.
Erivo has already proven in just a few interactions with the media and fans to be all about her ego. This is the 180-degree opposite of what Storm, as a character/if she were real, is. Storm is self controlled not grandiose. She is reserved because she is wise. She is a great leader because she is selfless.
Erivo doesn't show any of these qualities herself, and if she would try to make her portrayal of Storm all about Storm's external qualities – or worse, something dumb like the witch-priestess thing, which is totally irrelevant (andxwe saw how Acolyte tanked when going that route) –it'd be a 100% total failure. These are just a few reasons why Erivo is NOT right for this role.
