I haven't seen the show past season 2. I really liked the first season, the expansion of Yen's history was great especially since it matched the implications of the sources material. Parts of season 2 already had me going "what the fuck" with plot not making sense so I stopped watching. However I did recently finish the books and I've gotta say I was disappointed by them too. Sure, it's brutal realism, but it's too horny for the amount of SA & abuse that happens, and a lot of stuff just seems... unimpactful and unimportant by the end. The last book woulda been better if it ended like halfway through, and the mainline books before it coulda all been 2x shorter without losing anything important. I do love all the short stories though.
