I've just finished watching this series. Certainly some aspects of the story were streamlined or fictionalized, as would be expected. But one thing that really was not exaggerated was the character of Robert Evans. He was a character in the show...and he was a character in real life. There is a lot of inspired casting and good acting in this show, but Matthew Goode's portrayal of Evans was the best thing about it. Goode nailed Evans' wild charisma and unique diction. As some have suggested, I'd like to see a spinoff centered on Evans played by Goode again. He was not just goode...he was greate.
