See AllDoctor Who Season 15, Episode 4 Review: I'm Disappointed Ruby Sunday's Return Was In A Lackluster Episode That Made Little Sense
What I want from any SciFi show, including Doctor Who is fun and escapism, but I don't mind a subtle message or two. Unfortunately this was too "on the nose" for me. Living in a reality where the truth is substituted for lies and conspiracy theories abound, I wanted to get away from that for an hour or so. Besides the internal logic of this programme doesn't hold up. Fair enough Ruby meets this charming man and is smitten, but then appears on a podcast which presumably is part of his "Think Tank" agenda and she's telling tales of the Tardis without even sussing it out? Surely if Conrad has a media profile that would have flagged up? Are we then to assume that Ruby, with all of her UNIT s is a complete naive simpleton? If Think Tank is a fully formed conspiracy seeking organisation are we to believe that somehow they have existed in a vacuum until this very moment and UNIT were completely unaware of their existence. And on top of that during the "reveal" using a live monster that conveniently pauses before dispatching it's prey Conrad is such a halfwit that he thinks it's "special effects"! Then let's deal with the meeting with the Doctor, who after learning that one of his former companions has been used in such a heinous way, smiles and simpers at her ab. Where is the fury of a TimeLord, where is the hint of the gathering storm that once was our Doctor? And where does Conrad get Belinda's name before he meets Mrs Flood, after all, we are led to believe that the Earth is destroyed immediately after they meet and this is clearly set before. Nope, I'm afraid I don't buy it, this episode left a bad taste in my mouth, I don't want current affairs shoved down my throat when I want to escape reality, I'll watch the news for that. This episode left me a little sad and depressed and I can't wait until this current Season is over, I think I've had it with Doctor Who and I've been watching it for 55 of my 61 years. It's such a shame...
