The more I read about this, the more I fear they're going to develop one of these awful next gen formulaic bores made of carefully selected stereotypes, loaded with all the tropes and cliches of the original. It will be instantly predictable and unwatchable. I hope I'm wrong.

Spike would be easy to bring back. He was already once reanimated as a ghost in Angel, and then fully fleshed out into his old self. Then, he made a pilgrimage of some kind and got his soul back.

All that has to happen is, we have Buffy back, now a Mother Superior, or something, at a halfway house for nascent or recovering slayers. There's a tap on the door in the middle of the night. She opens it. It's Spike.

, when last scene, Spike was alive and well and charging into battle with the evildoers of Wolfram and Hart. Now, decades later, he finds Buffy again. Surprise! He has AGED! Buffy is aghast, of course.

"Hello Luv. It's me, Spike. It seems there's a catch to a dead vampire getting his soul back. I'm aging like a normal human, and I guess I'll die. I may not even be a real vampire any more."

This would lead to stuff like Spike testing to see if he incinerates out in the sun. Then, he re-professes his love for Buffy, who is still single. Then, suppose Drusilla gets the hang of this and decides to find Spike and chomp on him and turn him back into a full fledged vampire whether he wants this or not.

Along with Darla, who should also be brought back, Spike was the most delicious villain turned hero turned ghost turned vampire EVER!

Julie Benz was MAGNIFICENT as Darla! , she had to play the character as at least FIVE completely different individuals, both human and vampire! The way they killed her character off was lame in the extreme, but if she could not keep shooting, I guess there was no choice.

This means Benz as Darla and Charisma Carpenter and Cordelia were THE two most poorly used and wasted characters on the entire franchise!

I had even fashioned a magnificent fan fic in which these two confront one another! Wow!
